Does anyone bother anymore?

It was a big deal when I was a kid but not so much nowadays as far as I can see.

No idea. But I suspect the arseholes from the peoples republic of clavering will be doing their bit to keep this "tradition" alive.

Why do they never blow up in their faces. Shrugs.

Do people still go round each other's houses? In our street about ten households would meet up at about 6 in one house, then go to the next one and so on until about 6 in the morning. Was good craic, from the age of about 12 I was allowed beer and to stay up as long as I wanted.

I spent last NYE in a Welsh pub in Salou, and it was probably the best one I've had since the 1970s. And without the half-ten closing they had back then.
It used to be one of my favourite nights of the whole year but then it just seemed to fizzle and die.

I think you've the head on the nail there Monty. In the past it was Nightclubs or down ten pints in the last hour before 11. Wandering round peoples houses for parties were I guess the equivalent of todays late night bars.

We used to go to the Greensides or Woodcutter, then the Travs and onto the Lodge - then around the houses................

This year we're doing a day return to Amsterdam - booked months ago and so dead cheap - and back home in time for Jools Holland and a good kip before Catterick Races - sod the football..................
