Had a drunken rant on Friday after the match. There was a few of us out for our kids birthday and I was out with my ex girlfriends brother who is 18 and knows little about music. Someone put She Bangs The Drums on the jukey. It turns out that almost everyone who I asked who was out thought that the Stone Roses first album was the best of all time. I tend to agree.

It was that or The Queen is Dead by The Smiths

What do you reckon?

ah the best of all time argument, guaranteed to fill a drunken night. I love the stone roses but it doesn't stand the test of time like the queen is dead.
the smiths have it for me like.

NOW - you see i have a problem here coz i loved the queen is dead, but i also adored for different reasons the stone roses - one's top 10 would have em both in and one's top ten would all be number one on certain days too.

my top ten of all time would not only have a different number 1 everyday, there would probably be a different 10 tunes on any given day of the week.

On it's day, the Stone Roses. In hindsight, the Smiths everytime. However I spent a lot of time hating the Smiths because of the critical slavering that went on at the time, as with the Stone Roses who did SFA for the next five years and then brought an absolute turd of a record out. At least the Smiths have a quality back catalogue and Morrisey has gone on to produce some brilliant solo stuff. Ian Brown?? Don't get him....

Ian Brown holds god like status in the Bandage household! :sweeeet:

Met him whilst shopping in Warrington one time, and he's one cool customer!

However, the first time i seen him live (V98) i thought he was awful confised

Having said all that, The Queen Is Dead every time for me!

Am I the only contributor on here who hasn't knowingly heard either 'The Queen is dead' or anything by the Stone Roses?

Ian Brown is a legend! Did you hear the story about when The Stone Roses got their advance on The Second Coming, He walked around Manchester with a sack of cash, handing it out to the homeless! (story is probably embellished but good nontheless)

Shame he's a Shan Utd fan

Controversy corner now... I preferred Strangeways Here We Come to The Queen Is Dead.

Yeah, but you'll probably go there a bit happier.
Cant do Smiths singles but can do songs so in no particular order
I Know its Over
Paint a Vulgar Picture
London
How Soon is Now
Meat is Murder

Favourite Albums Queen is Dead followed by Meat is Murder
And for the record I loved both The Smiths and Roses - but the back catalogue says it all.

Personally I wouldnt ask someone to start with the first Smiths album as I reckon thats why some people find them irritating - as they've only heard a few songs such as Charming Man and Ask (yeah I know its not on the first album but you know what they mean)
Even I find Moz's voice slightly irritating on these songs. I'd start with Strangeways or Queen is Dead and work backwards. Or one of the comps such as World Wont Listen or Louder than Bombs

I just meant start at the beginning...seemed sensible to me...also it has some really bloody great songs on it!!

I'd give any 'singles/greatest hits' albums a wide berth, but thats me....louder than bombs/world wont listen aside  . i'm on about the new ones

jeez, yer really have to cover all bases eh?!
