For some apparently homophobic comments on Strictly Come Dancing. Surely by appearing on the show he's showing his support for poofs?

Funny thing is I bet it's not the queers that are throwing their double ended dildos out the bed, it's probably the other 50% who are just sad feckers with nowt better to do on a Satuday than watch the show and tweet their outrage.

Weird actually one of our best friends has a long standing strong dislike for Peter Kay, Why? He was working at a holiday camp years ago and saw one of his early performances long before he was famous and our friend said he was massively homophobic. Our friend is a gay man so maybe it has some legs. He did do that line on his first DVD "I'm not homophobic, I have never been scared of my house"

What did he say like did he call Craig Revel Horwood a disgusting faggot or something?

I once got one of his DVD's for Xmas and enjoyed it. The next year I got his "new" one. Exactly the same routine just from a different venue.
Rip off merchant.

I do like Car Share.

Ha ha that is phrase you here a lot less these days 'rip off merchant' a bit like you here of very few 'conmen' these days

I do like his stand up. His last tour was as good as his early couple, have a look on a YouTube at the stuff on mishearing song lyrics and I challenge you not to laugh. The bloke has toured three times in 16 years you can hardly accuse him of mass producing DVD's they have all been different shows as well, did you buy the same one twice? He did the Tower one, then the one in Bolton which were completely different material then the one about five years ago at the 02. Shit comedy for Mams is bollocks, you can't pigeon hole comedy you either find it funny or you don't just because you don't get it doesn't mean it isn't good. I've never got Lee Evans and I know he has a huge fan base.

I'd like to see more live comedy, we've been to see Lee Mack a couple of times who's brilliant live a seriously sharp bloke with the audience and we've just got tickets to see Micky Flanagan in May which we're looking forward to.

Lee Evans.... Sorry, just a Norman Wisdom tribute act who sweats.

Peter Kay appeals to a niche audience as do all comedians, comedy is like music in that respect.
I'm waiting for the day you need a compliant Degree to perform, as it appears all the trainee social workers who can't get a job are going into unfunny anecdotal stand up to an audience of like minded people.

I agree PJ he is very funny and clever too. Phoenix Nihts was outstanding and the spin off Max And Paddy brilliant too.

Car Share, the talent show piss take spoof he did were excellent and his portrayal of Danny Bakers dad in Cradle to The Grave was first class.

I saw Micky Flanagan in the Town Hall at Boro a couple of yrs ago and I ached everywhere from the laughing, proper funny bastard that fella. Hope he translates into such a big venue, never sure comedy in Arenas is the best idea

Peter Kay is a funny bloke. Anyone saying anything to the contrary is just a miserable sod.

And I agree he was superb in Cradle to grave.

But,and heres the issue...................he appeared on Strictly come "watch me dance and entertain you as I am a celebrity and you must love me"

That is unforgivable.

phoenix nights for me was top notch. always like the bloke. much better than the edinburgh fringe types who only seem to appeal to students and lefties. people seem too serious these days the days of banter and piss taking are getting a thing of the past. same for whistling at women. my partner always said the worst thing is when the don,t whistle as you know you are past it.

Another great contribution. Generally how forums works is peoples opinions differ and the flow of the thread works like that. He did two early Live DVD's which were the Top of the Tower then the Bolton Albert Halls (or something) they were completely different shows! It's not a case of disagreeing simply stating fact.

How the fook are you a moderator?

There we go, someone has just come out AND defended Peter Kay's comments. Who said the Bunker didn't serve a purpose.

I think his jokes have just been used so much. N his routines played on tv that much. That's it's all a bit samey n boring now.

Phoenix Nights and That Peter Kay Thing were superb, wasn't too keen on the Max & Paddy spin off. He is a bit predictable when he is on TV but still makes me laugh.

No I don't at all. If you think my life is that empty and I am sad enough to do that then that's up to you. I'm not sure who you think you are to be honest.

Take this thread for example, how exactly am I doing that? Most people seem to agree with me.

You on the other hand have made the same smart arsed one line comment on two separate threads aimed men that you and one or two others have been doing for months.

Wasn't Phoenix Nights co-written by Dave Spikey and the bloke who played Ray the DJ...?

It was co written by Dave Spikey but he played Jerry St Clair, I think him and Peter Kay had a big fall out.

It was written by Peter Kay, Dave Spikey and Neil Fitzmaurice (Ray Von). They had a fall out when Kay was nominated for a writers award and took all the credit when in fact it was co-written by all 3.

I went to see him at Newcastle and was very funny. I prefair Greg Davis and Dara o'Brian as stand ups.

I wouldn't fork out good money to watch a stand up rattle around on a big stage (all that desperate walking from one side to the other) but when they're on the TV it's the naturally funny guys like Ross Noble, Micky Flanagan and Peter Kay who make laugh rather than the middle class types pretending to be 'street.'

A lot of humour is subversive and mocks norms of behaviour. There's a line to be drawn somewhere with current norms like Elf and Safety and Political Correctness. Dunno where it is but it's got to be the right side of po faced!

I stopped watching stand-up comedians when they started subsituting the word Fuck for comedy.
Precision F-strikes, yes. Fuck as punctuation, nope leave me out.

There was a big controversy one Xmas when he released two DVDs on pretty much exactly the same gig.

That is exactly it when it comes to comedy, you either find it funny or you don't.

I mean some people even find Miranda Hart funny.

There're so many (imo) terrible stand-up comedians that I've given up watching them much, on the grounds that I'm much more likely than not to be wasting my time. I seem to find 'asides' funnier....such as the banter from Lee Mack and Rob Brydon in Would I lie to You?

Did anyone see the programme on Peter Cook last week? It showed some old tapes that had been stored away since he died. Brilliant and genuinely funny man.

Rob Brydon is very very funny, and very talented.

And the Trip with Steve Coogan is one of the best comedy programmes ever.

Christ that's scraping the barrel for a bite if ever I've seen it. How sad.

Speaking of dead comedians I saw something with Bob Monkhouse a few years ago were he stood in front of an audience and asked them to fire any word or topic at him and he'd have a joke about it. Incredible stuff totally ad lib, he was a seriously talented bloke who's stand up gets lost because of the TV personality he became.

Frank Skinner's top for me. Saw him in York & he was very funny, topical & involved the audience without necessarily pulling the piss out of anyone. His DVD's are well worth a view.

I like Skinner as well, very bright for a brummy. One of his that I remember was along the lines of a paedo moved to a new town and didn't know the area so he asked another paedo where the best places are to watch kids. He replied 'swings and roundabouts really'

Didn't Bernard Manning have to buy his own Club, cos nobody would book him? Late in his career like?
