I don't think Scotland count as passionate because they're completely shit as apposed to Wales who are just bang average.

Stones is making Griffiths look dangerous and he would struggle to get in Pools side.

Type 1 on the Bristol Stool Chart - separate hard lumps (hard to pass)

Rooney I would say is Type 2 - Sausage shaped but lumpy :)

It says more about how poor England than Rooney but he is still one of England's better players amongst loads of limited ones he's shown some moments of quality.

Why do we play at such and slow tempo when we have pace in the team? You don't need two players like Dier and Henderson surely one of those two has to have a bit more zip and quality about them? When not start Wilshire, he's fit and playing regularly and has more ability in his little finger than Jordan Henderson.

England have been garbage but could win this 5 or 6.

Scotland's back four make Pools look watertight.

One of the most talented players we have. He missed an open goal so what. The final third isn't really an issue.

He is dogshit, if people see him as one of the most talented, we will win fuck all ever, I would play Oates before him.

Confirmation that you are who everyone thinks you are!?

Dogshit!?

He's not the finished article but if you can't see his obvious ability then you are clueless, the bloke who manages him at club level seems to rate him seems and be getting the best out of him. For someone who is dogshit he did alright against Barcelona the other week as well.

England need to get the best out the talented players we do have.

England were complete Guano at the back. At least the 2 fullbacks looked dangerous going forward. Midfield virtually non existent, Llallallalala looked like creating something. Did we play a forward as apart from the goal Sterling was never in the box.

Luckily our Northern neighbours were even more Guano than us. A decent team would have taken advantage of our frailties. Anyway 3 more points towards qualification to a tournament where we will be Guano and embarrasing.

I really don't think anybody can be arsed with you so we'll move on.

Back to the game and England I really do think the problem is midfield. Both in how we set up the team and the players we pick. All of the best teams in the World right press high up the field England spend the earlier part of most games sitting off with two limited midfield players players exchanging sideways and backwards passes with the centre backs. Even an utterly terrible Scotland team pressed better than us for 45 minutes.

I have to agree PJ, for a while now England has been set up for possession football, which allows decent teams to sit back and break quick on the counter. The tempo is far too slow again allowing teams to hold a defensive shape and soak up the pressure, and to get players behind the ball, so when a ball does go in the box it is usually snuffed out. England has some good fast attacking full/wing backs and"Wingers", yet the wingers are rarely given space to run at their opponents. Play a quicker tempo and maybe add a creative central midfielder and the National team may no longer flatter to deceive.

The scariest stat is that England are unbeaten in their past 33 qualifying matches (W25 D8) since a 1-0 defeat by Ukraine in October 2009. shows we play nobodies get to competitive matches and just crumble.

I don't think it's scary, we have had worse England teams than this group of players. Technically we have some good players, in terms of touch and pure football ability we're quite well off and that department we just have no idea how to build a team out of the pool of players we have. We aren't great defensively these days the centre backs are good on the ball but are poor in terms of pretty basic defending. So why would you sit and play at slow tempo with two holding midfielders inviting a team onto to? Especially against a terrible team like Scotland.

I just had a chat with Pep Guardiola about the match and he said it was a bit shit but he'd seen England play a lot shitter so it was basically OK. Fair comment, but he kept giggling and eating haggis tapas the whole time so i'm not sure he was totally serious.

Sterling was awful last night, anyone who hasn't seen Pep's frustration with Sterling hasn't seen a City game this season as it's every week. He does have potential, that why he's so annoying. He makes the wrong decision more often than not. He was much more effective for Liverpool I thought at least in his first season in the team.

As for the game, the result is obviously what matters, the scoreline highlights the difference in quality but they were better organised and as mentioned pressed much better. Scott Brown was awful yet the commentary claimed he was good, he was pedestrian second half and pretty much being carried by the team. Morrison and Snodgrass were their only half decent players but even they lacked composure around the England box.

I worry about Tuesday night but it's only a friendly and we've always played better on the break against better opposition.

England have very few world class players. In fact we have no players that would get in anyones world team and probably not in a squad of 30.

Lallana is getting there. Wilshire would be if he could stay fit. Alli could be. Stones will be but he has so much to learn.

Apart from that..........

Oh and rooney was shite. Again.

Lallana's improvement under Klopp has been remarkable. Has a purpose to his game now rather than a few tricks and dribbles.

It's a strange one with England, obviously they're so disappointing at tournaments but that utter aberration against Iceland was their only defeat in about twenty competitive games. They've also beaten Germany, France & Portugal in the last year. I think they're far from being great but I think if you take out the worst performance I've ever seen against Iceland they're moving in the right direction.
I hear people say things like "this is the worst England team ever", they obviously didn't have to endure England teams featuring legends like Carlton Palmer, Andy Sinton and Geoff Thomas.

Gone for 2-1 England, Lallana first scorer at 85/1.

Can only see us outplayed but hopefully that means we can play to our strength, using pace on the break.

Just me wanting a Spain goal then?

It really has been a decent game, it generally is against teams expected to beat us comfortably though. It's the shite like Scotland we struggle to impress against.

Pretty decent performance by England that. The score doesn't really matter in friendlies and conceding goals after 6 of the starting 11 have gone off is neither here nor there.

There's a chance the World Cup Finals under Southgate will be less embarrassing than they were nailed on to be under Fat Sam.

Who can ask for more?
