Going for a gauge in either Matlock or Matlock Bath on Saturday, does anyone know which is the best for pubs?

I knew a lad from Matlock Bath who reckoned Matlock was shit for pubs in comparison. But it was a long time ago and he was a bouncer who became a slaughterhouse manager so it was never easy to trust him on this sort of thing.

Cheers anyway, I'll throw that into the mix.

Went there in August and four of us had a ride on the railway.
However, it was one of those wartime weekend things and being directed onto the train by 'Germans' with machine guns was a bit odd !
I pulled up a chair and watched the big punch up at the end.

Sounds ace, I'm sure it won't be long before we're directed onto trains by machine guns for real.

I like Matlock and Matlock Bath.

Quite a lot.

I have nothing further to add.

Mr Pin, I can confirm I have never been to Matlock or Matlock Bath, so have nothing in the way of positive or negative advice. I hope this is of assistance when making your decision.

Wait there though, as a rule of thumb I would normally choose the one with the most sheep. Google may be of help on this one.

Matlock Bath is more of a visitor attraction spot, with loads of ice-cream, fish n chip shops, cable cars, caves, only a few pubs, very popular with bikers, whereas Matlock itself - although a small town - has a much wider choice of drinking establishments.

A massively under-rated album that has stood the test of time a lot better than most of the stuff that the critics loved at the time.

It's a great record. The actual "sound" of it is quite "NMTB" (Loads of Les Paul big chord overdubs) with a bit of Mott The Hoople chucked in. Mick Ronson produced it so there's a bit of Bowie-glam in there too. Midge Ure is a VERY good songwriter and a great Singer and Steve New (R.I.P) is a VERY good flashy Guitarist.

One of my favourite records of the whole Punk/New Wave genre. Glen Matlock speaks very highly of it, and that band, too.

Think they were very unlucky that the whole post-punk thing was taking off just as they released an album that blended in some of the better pre-punk approaches. I remember liking it when it was released but it soon got caught between three poles - too soft for the UK Subs and Sham fans, too backward looking for the PIL/Banshees zealots and too punky for the old rockers. When I fish it out now it just sounds like good musicians making the best record they could rather than chasing after good reviews from pseudy critics or worrying about their street credibility.

Go straight through and stop in Bakewell.

Much better.

I thought about that, but for some reason the train prices are extortionate for that route. Matlock return is less than a tenner.

For forty bar return fare it will have to wait. And I've just discovered that it's Matlock beer festival today, bonus!
