Shame really because if you take away the weaning factor he was a half-decent player, the dog’s bollocks with the LDB.

I think it might be a bit unfair for all to judge this. Remembering Bodgecroft was at the helm when all of this kicked off, I feel (well know after speaking to the lads at the 2005 reunion) Jack Ross was a decent feller and the chairman at the time made him look a dick.

Jack Ross actually wrote a letter back declining the invitation as he felt he wouldn't be welcome after the way he was portrayed. He actually had some nice words to say about his time at the club and the fans, but as said above didn't feel comfortable after the hammering he took.

But I can understand where he was coming from now bbolt

Maybe he was worried Cooper would have decked him.

Fair enough, seem to remember he said something along the lines of how little he thought of Cooper in his "il never return even if they get in the Champions League" dribble.

In hindsight it probably all was over the top. From memory I think it was his wife who didn't settle and it must be hard to move to an area where you don't know anyone while your husband is going out to work. He was from Falkirk which let me assure you makes Hartlepool look like St Tropez, I think they even bought a house in Houghton Le Spring to try and feel closer to home but even that didn't have enough burnt out houses and hardly any of the shops even sold Buckfast never mind to 12 year old kids so they struggled. Wherever you are from home is home however it's perceived from outsiders.

I dont think anyone has a problem with their wife feeling homesick. The professional thing to do would be to say that, request a transfer and carry on training etc till its sorted.

The fact he refused to come back after his injury, went on the sick and said that crap about never returning even if were in the Champions League and slagging Cooper off is what pissed most of.

Of course it's unfair especially since, as you say, news like this was always manipulated by the Club so that we heard only one side.

The backlash from some fans at the time was cringifying.

Some 'fans' are pure bred sheep from the world famous Dim flock. Get a bandwagon going and they'll hang on for the ride and bleat. Their ancestors must have been the people who organised the burning torch mobs looking for a bit of Witch baiting and burning.
