We're looking at going to Wales in the school holiday at the end of May next year.

Before we had the bairns me and our lass went to Tenby which was smart, but I've just checked the prices for a house or flat for the week there and it's well expensive.

Anyone know of anywhere else on the south coast of Wales that isn't extortionate?

Try around Bala in North Wales. Handy for everywhere..... well not everywhere, just North Wales.

Barry Island? That's always struck me as lovely holiday destination. Like Skegness but full of people who hate the English.

Wales has superb scenery.

But its always called and wet and has far too many blokes that like singing way too much.

And they spit at you when they talk.

And they dont use vowels. Daft fuckers.

There must be a 100 places in england and scotland better. Especially for kids.

I like the coast on Anglesey beautiful around there.

Brecon is also fantastic area but 30 miles or so from Swansea and the coast

Went into a tourist information office in North Wales where the two ladies were holding a conversation in English, as soon as the wife spoke to me they stopped and started speaking in Welsh. But in a tourist information office of all places sctatchinghead

One place we stopped there was idyllic, a log cabin next to a river on a perfect summers evening. It lasted briefly ...within an hour the TA arrived literally next to us to keep us company for four days. That said the kids loved it

Been to Wales about 7 times.
I only go to see Pools.

But its probably better than Afganistan for a holiday.

Llandudno is pleasant in a scouse Scarborough kind of way but, as a fan of "The Prisoner", it's Portmerion for me. Plus, the beach goes on forever when the tide's out, but beware of big bubble type things. People in South Wales are, generally, very friendly - although I wouldn't mention anything about Nottinghamshire if I were you!

Agree with MJ about Barafundle in the west - lots of coast and castles over there if that's what your kids like along with Little Haven, Broad Haven, Porthgain and Newport. Further south, Rhossili Bay is enormous and beautiful as are Pembrey Sands, which are accessed from a country park, so there's loads of stuff to do with the kids.

Then again Mr PiN, if all you're after is beautiful windswept beaches 'n castles 'n picturesque towns dripping with rain, can I remind you about the North Yorkshire coast or Northumberland all the way from Long Sands to the Scottish border?*

There's even the chance of a couple of sunny days on this side of the Pennines.

*excluding Blyth.

Thanks all, we've settled on Llandudno. Big beach, near loads of castles, plenty of pubs and restaurants to choose from. Me and our lass went before we had kids and it wasn't too bad. Best of all the north Wales places it seemed.
