For some reason we decided not to try to score against them. France are playing pretty direct and running at them, they're shitting themselves.

Puts into perspective just how really very good England are. Very good piece by Kevin Pullein in yesterday's Racing Post basically saying that all these people who say England have got no passion have got it all wrong, what they havn't got is skill and intelligence unlike the Germans, French, Spanish and Italians. He ends by saying that what England really need is the one thing they can't have - foreign players.

All through the tournament, pundits have been saying the Iceland keeper is their weakest link, yet England never tested him. France on the other hand have controlled the midfield and attacked quickly, stretching the defence. Mind you going 2 down early meant Iceland did have to try to press forward.

To be fair England went in front even earlier than the French, then sat back like a pack of fannies.

I don't we sat back we didn't have time we lead for about seven seconds! England with the ball actually played well for the first half an hour, two unbelievably soft goals later we found ourselves 2-1 behind then became absolutely consumed by fear and what the papers would be saying if they lost to Iceland. By the second half it was a shambles lads who are good footballers like Harry Kane couldn't even pass a ball five yards or control it. A mixture of too much expectation and mental weakness.

Iceland have been brilliant to be fair, unbelievable that a country of that size have reached the last 8 of a major tournament. One game too far for them obviously but they aren't a bad side at all relatively speaking. Holland didn't qualify for Euro 2016 they were in the same group as Iceland and lost twice to them.

They are still having a right go now at 5-2!

They got 20 points from 10 games and finished 2nd in a group with Holland, Turkey and Czech Republic in it, they deserved to qualify in an any year.

What the fuck was £3.5 million a year Woy doing making 6 changes for that game, they should have sacked him during the tournament! You win a game in the 90th minute against a local rival, I know what I'll do I'll toss off any momentum and change over half the team.

The most bizarre one was that he was in charge at all. That last world cup should have been it for him.

Then he got lucky with the easiest qualifying group possible. And then the two yearly bigging up of our golden generation took over again.

And so the cycle starts again.

Actually the most bizarre decision of all was ever giving him the job in the first place.

I think how 'well' England played against Russia and Wales has been grossly exaggerated and all the performances flattered to deceive (I know Wales have done brilliantly but I think they gave England too much respect).

England had a lot of the ball in the group games but it was painfully pedestrian and every team had plenty of time to get behind the ball and defend in numbers. England's midfield 3 consisted of 3 players who are not midfield players.

Dier, a centre half converted to play for his club in front of centre halves, yes he converted a lot of passes but let's be honest he took it off the England centre halves feet and knocked a few 10-20 yard passes very slowly. For Spurs he has Dembele and Eriksson in front of him, bit of a difference.

Rooney, a centre forward/number 10 converted to midfield, as above really but did it slightly further forward. Got on the ball a lot and in first few games made a lot of passes but it was done so slowly and predictably and like Dier he isn't very mobile.

Alli, lot's of potential but is a number 10 for Spurs (ahead of Dembele and Eriksson) and expectations way to high for him. Hasn't played as a conventional midfield player for Spurs and doesn't build play up box to box.

The best teams tend to win games from midfield, to have no actual midfield players as your first choice is a bit bizarre being polite/totally shit being realistic

I don't agree at all that England don't have the players, although the lack of a couple of decent alternatives to Joe Hart in goal was a serious problem. The tournament is full of players from the Premier League who are having a great time in the European Championships, including Aaron Ramsey and Ashley Williams for Wales. The raw material is there for the England team, the coaching, game plan, on field leadership and self-belief isn't. Hodgson and co should have prioritised team spirit and a winning mentality over technical ability, taken a few more of the Leicester boys and permanently relegated the likes of Sterling, Kane and Alli to the bench after the Russia game.
