I'm bloody sick of tight, competitive games, I want to see somebody, anybody I don't care get a bloody good hammering.

Ha ha, a surprising source for the first 0-0 of the tournament.

Worst game of the tournament so far. More or less devoid of any attacking inspiration.

With 3 going through in most groups it's to be expected that these smaller countries would try n grind out draws n sneaky wins.

I expect it to get more open by the 3rd game.

England have played against 2 teams who have defended so deep n just camped in there own half.

Last night I had a go at making sense of the arrangements for the draw in the next round.

Assuming England win Group B (now likely), they would play a well-performing third-placed team (looks like 3 points minimum) from Groups C, D or E in the last 16.

Which could well be Northern Ireland (or Czech Republic, Turkey or pretty much any team out of Group E, including Ireland, assuming Belgium get their act together).

The structure of the tournament is certainly contributing to the tight, defensive football. As has been pointed out, 4 of the 6 3rd place teams advance so there arguably isn't any incentive to attack given three draws would be enough. The 3rd group games might throw up a few more open games given some teams might have no choice but to go for the win by then.

I don't think the Republic of Ireland would thank you for calling them a U.K. team, but, as some people think half of their population reside in the U.K., maybe you were talking about Poland.
