So - Hignett played his full strength side, minus the injured Paynter, at Oxford. Now he's saying that he's basically happy with the defence and midfield that he's got but he's sick of Pools dominating games but not scoring.

So the priority is to bring in goalscorers for next season: “There are loads of them in England and we will go for the best we can get."

Paynter and Thomas are surely safe; they're contracted and they've got goals. But it sounds like the rest of the current front players will all be down the road if their contract situations allow him to get rid.

Where does that leave Luke James? Gone at the end of the season like fellow loanee Jake Gray, from the sound of things.

Or at best - three games left to hit the back of the net a few times.

Fewster is a decent shout. Got a decent goals return despite playing in a shite team.

We could do with unearthing a right sided Nathan Thomas and cloning Billy Paynter.

Someone with a bit of pace and power up front would be nice.

I'd already thought about Fewster as well. He didn't do much against us but has managed to score 8 in 22 in a team that doesn't create much which isn't too bad.

Would like to see Oates given a change to lead the line as well. He came on up top on Saturday and won a few headers but apart from that didn't really have anything to work with.

It's not a striker but defender Ben Pollock who has been on trial and played in the last 4 reserve games played for the youth team at the weekend I believe so I'd be surprised if he doesn't sign given the length of his trial period.

I wonder if we'll renew our interest in Kristrian Dennis, 23 goals this season although they've dried up lately.

Mind in checking on him I noticed that fat twat Matt Rhead has scored 20 for Lincoln so the conference must be pretty shit these days.

Scott Boden of Newport would be good signing, if he's out of contract. He's got 13 this season for them. 13 out 0f 43. Only Dagenham have scored less this season.

people keep saying its the end of luke james, but he cant make plans with a loan player who still has 2 years (I think it is) on his contract at another club. Same with Grey.

We cant make plans with players that aren't our own, and even if he has secured the services of those player for next season, I doubt he can comment at this stage.

Gray is a strange one, one of the few players who somehow seemed more effective under Moore unless he simply got tired and fatigued as the season wore on and coincided with Hignetts arrival - must take its toll going from reserves to pretty much a full season of first team football.

Not sure if I would try and get him for next season to be honest if I was Hignett, not sure if he fits into the formation Hignett wants to go with.

Be more than happy for him to bring a midfield general in alongside Featherstone and Hawkins and let Thomas, Painter and whoever comes in on the right attack.

On the subject of midfielders - is Tishibola injured or just out of favour? Dont seem to see anything of him lately.

Jake Gray has been playing wide-right recently on account of Paynter's injury and hasn't looked as effective. Hignett seemed (when Paynter is fit) to be favouring 4-3-3 with no central attacking midfielder which is where I think Jake Gray sees his best position.

He is canny as one of the two CMs ahead of Featherstone but I've seen enough from Michael Woods this season to suggest that area shouldn't be our priority. Luke James looks a better wide option.

Well I think Jake Gray has been poor. I imagine it's as Tree said, fatigue. I don't see any reason to bring him back though

Gray has been far from poor, his form has dropped off true but it's probably understandable for a 19 year old with no experience of first team football. Six goals from midfield is a decent return and we went through spells before we signed Thomas when he was our only creative spark. His best position is probably the point of diamond or playing off the strikers but wherever he's been asked to play he's always put a shift in for the team. I'd imagine he'll go on to have a very decent career, if we could get him back for another season I would without question as no doubt helped by his experience this year he'll be a far better player this time next year.

Could still be out with this.
