Heading there this weekend, anyone shed any light on the parking situation? Am I better off doing the Park and Ride from the college or spaces closer?

Joe you are better off getting the Park and ride. Parking is a nightmare in the town centre, normally, never mind a weekend. Especially a weekend when thousands of strangers will be turning up for said festival.

What day are you going Mr Mac? Just that Mr Monkeybutt maybe attending if you wish to carshare!!!! :text-imsorry:

Cheers Bishop, that's what we'll end up doing I reckon. Also looked at trains, one from Thornaby to Bishop and only looks a 15 minute walk away so not too bad.

Mr Mac PM me (I've never been PM'D before), I might have a few alternatives for parking if travelling by car.

If there's a few coming through why not hire a mini bus or 76 seater coach and make a day of it, and treat your significant others to a morning/early afternoon at the Food Festival, then treat them to the Heritage Park experience (3.00 PM kick off) where the Mighty 2 Blues are at home to high flying North Shields.

Pools are away on Saturday!

I've been a few times but last time I went was a couple of years ago and I thought it was a lot better than an in previous events. One thing that never changes with it is parking though, we've always managed but that was getting there very early so I'd probably go for park and ride.

Not going this year though, going to watch us bring home the points against Oxford instead.

You're correct Mr Honest. The Festival is getting bigger and better every year. It was started out by volunteers from the Town Council, but as it got bigger was too much work. It's now run by Durham County Council. This year looks like there are a lot more stalls/activities etc than previously.

Today's the day. The weather is glorious at the moment. Very Sunny. Hope the weather is as good for those travelling to Oxford.

I'm about to get showered and shaved then haircut and food festival, followed by Football.

I got me some Hot Naga Nip Chilli Chutney. A snip at £3.95 for 300g. Might pop back today as they had em on offer 3 for a Tenner. May test a few other flavours! Yesterday was absolutely Chocca block, couldn't get stirred or on occasions anywhere near viewing distance of the stalls. Today may be queiter so I can have a good peruse.

Could you still get a free pork pie when you bought the Northern Echo there yesterday?

Spent a few hours there on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of stalls and choice, sampled a few ales in the Beer tent and had a really nice Indian from the Urban Rajah tent. Disappointed in the cheese selection but took Yubep's advice and went to the chilli jam men stall and tried pretty much everything they had.

Managed to get parked a few minute walk away on Durham Road so avoided the Park & Ride.

any festival with the jam man there is worth going just for them.

We go to york me and the mrs every december when the markets are on and always come back with loads of the stuff, plus chilli beer and chocolate, for ourselves and as presents for people.

I've been ordering a bit online aswell, can get 3 jars for £10.

Last time i was in york i got some lovely beard oil, cheese, meat and chilli jam.

I think its a sign of getting old that i come home with no hangover but smelling of lovely citrusy oils.
