This week I had the pleasure of meeting the Chairman of Cambridge Utd, what a lovely bloke he is and just shows what true fan he is. Was always talking about what they can do for community and how can get more schools etc involved. He shed another light on finances and how after every goal either opposition or Cambridge he always thinking about how it affects gates and in turn how much they can the afford. Great story he said was going analysis of how much it costs for them to stay over night before and results, which they nearly always lost so he went to manager and said we could save a fortune and as your going to get beat anyway it doesn't matter. This was all tounge in cheek.

He did say some chairman are bastards and one when he took over and visiting during an away match told him to sod the fans and community and if they didn't like what he was doing then fuck them.

He also had nothing but praise for Pools and said we where very much like them however he just trying to attract people even more now as he can see West Ham new stadium really hurting their revenue on match days.

I reckon there will be a lot of bandwagoners...if that's even a term...during the next season for West Ham. Possibly European lure, new stadium novelty, etc.

Sad really that teams like Cambridge will see a hit because of it.

I agree with you there Phil, didn't Orient try and get this overturned as they would potentially lose fans from their catchment area? Lost to a "big" club. Money talks. Arsenal I agree with, bearing in mind clubs like Man City etc who have moved into new Stadiums. The Big clubs would say its needed for extra fans, ambience etc and ergo more income!

On the other hand as much as I loved Kingsway, I really enjoy HP, which is a good modern facility, built for purpose with potential to expand when Bishops challenge for Europe! Kingsway unfortunately despite the character could not be expanded, and loads of space lost due to the ground being "L" shaped, part of that being the cricket pitch, also the Cricket Club was the main tenant. Only alternative for progression up the Football Pyramid was to relocate. Hence over a decade in the Wilderness groundsharing, until the Wembley of the North became a reality!

I suppose what I'm saying is History and tradition form the bonds, I'll always have the memories of Kingsway, but unfortunately sometimes change is needed for progression.

I was reading something about West Ham's new ground and its expected that the atmosphere will be non-existent. Being a multi-sport ground the bottom tier is retractable so anyone at the black is so far off the pitch. Financially though it should be fantastic for them and that's all that matters these days. http://www.footballgroundguide.com/news ... -move.html

These big clubs don't seem to realise we exist, never mind the detrimental effect they have on lower league football. We had a decent cup run this year and people are thinking of all the things we could do with that money; its not even a couple of weeks wages for some top players.

Sort that pitch out and put a terrace down the side and you will be laughing. Loved our time there, shame its gone a bit pear shaped the last few months with the weather destroying the pitch.
