How's that York staying up at our expense thing going?

I am sure nobody in the Town End will mention this next week out of respect to former player and that.

be a shame to see York go down to be honest, much rather Stevenage go down but can't see it. I didn't think it would turn out like it has with us signing Carson and him going the other way. Can't underestimate the importance of a decent keeper.

Apart from us they are the last team I want to go out of the League we've even discussed getting the train through for a game next season and standing in the Braintree end just so we can have a York away day on the pop!

But his comments were still a bit off the mark its fair to say seen as they now need snookers to catch us.

Yeah, I guess he always had to come out with a bit of fighting talk in the circumstances, been left with some egg on his face now.

With york probably down I'm personally desperate for Donny to go down and Grimsby to come up, be a nice couple of "local" away days for me to get to next season.

Might have found his level next season.

The bloke has bills to pay and you don't know what wage cut he was offered or what York offered him. He has no direct connection to Hartlepool so he basically left one job for another. Not sure why that should justify any grief or ill will towards him.

No joy in York & Flinders going down ! But never did understand how people thought he was a class keeper when he was here because all he ever did was to stop the odd pen and pick the ball out of our net after failing to come for crosses. Totally well overrated in my opinion

He wasn't class he looked like he has the potential to be at one point. He is and was a decent keeper though, we have had far,far worse. Carson is an upgrade but Flinders is mum top five Pools goalies. I read a whinge from a York fan on the League Two forum the other week and one of the two decent players they have on the books was Flinders.

Flinders started going downhill when the very excellent GK coach Gary Walsh left and the defence got shitter than shit. For almost 2 seasons he was fantastic.

Saying that, Carson is better and I hope flinders has a mare on Saturday.

As a compromise, how about he makes a series of miraculous saves that keeps the score down to 5-0?

Its all about opinions and my opinion of floppy flinders has always been totally consistent CRAP :uhoh: He was at best a average Hartlepool keeper and we have had a tipper lorry full of shite spread out over the years. Keepers with potential improve season on season but Flinders did the total opposite and thats why he was nearly relegated last season and is now relegated this season. Please do not bother to say " not yet relegated" we all know whats certain now!

You do realise that Carson was relegated from League 2 last season?

When Flinders first came I thought he was amazing. But that probably says more about his predecessors than it does him.

He had a few really good spells of form, and his last few seasons were pretty poor. I always liked him though, was sad to see him go, but pleased we have a better player now. I think after Dimi left I was a bit traumatised and scared to ever release a goalie again!

Phil we seen Dimi play in a hell of a lot of games both home and away and he was the best keeper I have seen over the years a very very special keeper who continuously made the big saves in games and often when only called upon once because we dominated the game but that one save allowed us to win by one goal

No hard feelings towards Flinders, he had his ups and downs but was generally OK.
It's Jan Budtz that still gives me nightmares!

Players come and players go. His last couple of seasons were below average to be kind, but then so had everything else been at the club for several years.... I'm happier with Carson.

Yes but when did I mention Carson sctatchinghead I was simply pointing out my opinion of Flinders time at Pools and for me he was always slipping down a greasy slide. Just because a team gets relegated does not always mean that all the players in the team are poor or below the standard of that league and in Carsons case its fair to say he was a good player in a bad team. Flinders was a poor keeper in a poor team at Pools and now he is a poor keeper in a .........hope you get my point.

Flinders deserves credit for having such a fit girlfriend.

Can't believe this hasn't even been mentioned yet.

The Times has Flinders as the top keeper in League 2 with 151 saves.

Not surprised..York's defence is shocking. In fact if I was Woodsy, I'd ask for "his" winning goal in our game there to be re-credited!

Counting up the number of saves has to be the daftest way of assessing keepers ever. On that system Peter Shilton was crap when he was at Notts Forest and Gordon Banks wasn't much cop at international level in 1966.

If an opinion is something you're entitled to have independently of any facts, then, yeah, you're right I suppose.

But then there'd no point debating anything, would there?

In real life, Flinders wasn't 'totally consistent crap' and in real life there was a lengthy period when Dimi was so off-form that people wondered why he wasn't given a rest. I just like them both.

Agree. Hopefully Carson will be with Pools for a similar number of seasons to Dimi and Flinders and his form will never drop off, but realistically all footballers have poor spells, including goalies.

None of us is in a position to say how good or bad Flinders has been at York, but all the stats (goals conceded, shots saved) suggest that a crap defence has been keeping him busy. Who knows, maybe he'll do a Carson and win their player of the season!
