A genuine question here but what are the big benefits of owning the ground?

I think you get assistance for ground improvements but at present I'm sure any cash used for purchasing the ground would be better spent on the team

A good question and a fair point about the team - but respect to the Chairman for trying.

Don't forget that there is a protection order (Asset of Community Value) nothing has been notified which means that discussions may have happened but there is no agreement to sell.

To answer a question above; there is no benefit in terms of grants. The grants are the same whether you own the ground of have a lease of 15 years plus. I see no financial benefit for the club in owning the ground other than it can be used as security for finance. There is plenty of benefit to the town for the ownership to remain how it is at the moment or to be community owned.

Agreed.

And how worrying is it, that this fella couldnt find a penny to spend during the transfer window, but has cash to buy the ground, that can be for the benefit of his company, not Pools.

I wonder if he is actually aware that we are 3rd bottom of the league.

It's our ground why would we need to buy it back? Far better for it to belong to us ie the status quo..

He did admit when he took over that it was a short term fix and they didn't have the funds to make it a long term plan. If by buying the stadium he can sell the club on to owners with deep pockets and ambition, surely that will benefit pools.

Am I right in thinking the stadium is protected whoever owns it, stopping it from being sold to a property magnate for houses?

Been ok till now , but ....with the advent of this new Teesside wide authority, who'll control ownership of the ground in the future. I don't see a boro based authority giving a toss about the future of the vic.

If they own the ground it surely opens up ground sponsorship? Not that I could forsee anyone wanting to sponsor the vic.

A company could sponsor the ground whether it's owned by the club or not.

Obviously, but as owners of the ground they'd be the beneficiary rather than the council.

The council wouldn't get any money if the club got a ground sponsor.

Are you a real person?

Ah yes. My mistake. That huge discussion about the tv money not being spent etc didnt happen during the window.

I do apologise.

The club need to redevelop the ground to provide much needed additional revenue streams and so I don't have an issue with discussing the ownership with Coxhall in isolation.

That said, it does concern me the club could get saddled with a shed load of debt not all of which is invested in the redevelopment (cough, Nothampton, cough). Also, what lender would see Pools as an attractive covenant to repay a loan which in itself would push up the price.

We need to be having discussions with the council about a development that would benefit both the club and the local community. The council must have bucket loads of cash right......

The fans already own the ground. It is community owned through the council.

The bigger question is why is there such an obsession on the club owning the ground. They currently pay a peppercorn rent on a 60 odd year lease. Owning it would increase those costs so why do it? There is no benefit in terms of grants from the FA/FL etc.

Because as we both know, the owners can use the ground as a bargaining tool, for almost any venture. And as has been proven at other clubs, it can become a very dangerous tool.

Anyone that cant see that is very very stupid.

If they sell it, I would trust it would be for the proper market price. And not sold to a recruitment agency that I had never heard of. And I know a good few of them.

Anybody remember that episode of the Sopranos where Tony wrecks an old school friend's business after giving him a loan? His old mate gets upset and in justification Tony basically says, "You knew what I was."

We know what JPNG are. They might mean well but if they could do it they wouldn't be able to resist using the ground as a bargaining chip in what appears to be a cash poor portfolio of businesses. That might not do any harm but it would be taking an unnecessary risk with the club's future so I'd rather stick with the council at least until there was a clear and open plan in place.

Incidentally,

I don't actually believe that Gary Coxall is out to do anything untowards, I'm looking at the longer term. Businesses fail, its a fact of life and it happens in recruitment a lot because of the nature of the business.

The ground being council owned gives long term stability for the football club irrespective of who owns the shares or even if HUFC limited ceased to exist and was replaced by a phoenix club. There is still a ground which is sustainable at much lower levels than division 4. Do you think Darlo would be where there are if they had stayed at Feethams?

In my view there is no reason to mistrust JPNG but things do go wrong.

If there was a good reason for the ground to be sold which benefits the club substantially then I stand to be corrected.

Who would be owning the ground, JPNG or HUFC? If answer is HUFC, would JPNG be able to use the ground in any way to benefit themselves?

Is there more chance that the council would pull out of any agreement or contract on the lease of the ground and use the land for housing than HUFC/JPNG would?

Been coming all along.

There was only ever one reason for JPNG to buy Hartlepool - obtain and develop (sell) the ground for construction. Maybe buy us a piss-poor plot of land miles from the town and then watch as we go into free(er) fall.

The only due diligence ever carried out prior to the Hartlepool purchase would have been the cancelling of the OIR debt and the possibililty of reclassifying the land.

We're being royally screwed over ...

Fair enough. Do you have any connection to the club other than being a fan?
