We signed the mighty Ali Gibb and a young ex Boro lad Gary Liddle. John Daly had a good bit of form that i recall him scoring about 5 goals in 3 games or something similar. Then we got Monkhouse and Daryl Duffy on loan who who did well until January when we signed Monkhouse and Barker permanent both in the first week of Jan i think Barkers last game for Mansfield was against us.

Such happier times even though the season still started shit haha. Still can't believe they didn't release a DVD of that season. Would be nice to watch it back. Nothing like throwing the league away in the last 3 games. Only pools could get promoted and still make it a bit disappointing.

CLoughy tells it how it is.

Would like to listen to him on the Thursday night Bbc Tees fans panel but we all know they only use fans who sit on the preverbial fence!

Indeed a time when we had the financial clout to actually go out and take rival clubs best players.

None of this " we wont be held to ransom " horseshit.

How did we manage to get barker, mansfields captain, highest earner and best player, to travel up north?

VAT was only 17.5% back then so that probably helped.

I'm sure at one point we won 7 or 8 consecutively to nil. I think we were about ten minutes from another Shrewsbury equalised against us at Gay Meadow. James Brown scored a cracker to put us ahead back in the day I used to do away games all the time. What a player that lad would have been without injuries.

Strangely I think Dimi has just bettered that run at the Boro.

I don't really want to at the minute to be honest. I go to a couple a season. Change of circumstances and priorities as well having a couple of kids, I work plenty of hours a week so come the weekend I want to spend time with my family rather writing off a full Saturday to watch Pools lose in 90th minute at the other end of the country which I've done plenty of in my time, and no doubt will do it again at some point!
