I've been thinking about this. How can we be sure her achievement hasn't been helped along by banned substances?

I wouldimagine the whole country will grind to a halt for a week. Television programmes will be cancelled, Radio stations will play the death march on repeat, old people will cry and be helpless, younguns will be arrested for merely carrying on like nowt had happened, plod will kick the shit out of anyone that dares to smile, the army will shoot anyone that ventures outside, just in case, and the councils will cancel allbin collections for a month.

The only trouble with getting rid is...an elected head of state, where half the country loves them and the other half hates them. It's not something that excites me or angers me, it's inert, I lose no sleep over it and that's ok by me.

I don't understand how anybody falls for the royal family trick. How is the Queen passed off as a lasting symbol of one nation Britain when she is really just the most recent matriarch of a super-rich, trans-national, land owning family that agreed to relinquish obvious political power in exchange for tax exemption and behind the scenes influence?

Plenty of people on here who get rightly worked up about Sepp Blatter and FIFA getting temporary tax free status from host countries of the World Cup seem to think that similar arrangements are absolutely fine if they're done on a never ending hereditary basis. Throw in the fact that half of them were such open Nazi sympathisers that there had to be an abdication and the idea of them being politically neutral gets ridiculous.
