Not even a trial before signing?

Great signing.

Without a doubt. Easily one of the best players we've had in recent years.

Signed by a club which, over the years, has usually been within spitting distance of us, in terms of league position. I wonder if we'd have been in league 1 it would've mattered. Scunny have usually been kicking around with Pools, yet they seem to be signing good players on presumably decent contracts. Good luck to them.

Like us Scunny were always embedded in the 'bottom four' brigade in the Fourth Division, along with Crewe and Rochdale throughout the seventies/eighties era. They have all had relative success in the last couple of decades, including ourselves. This season it's our turn

When IOR were still interested in Pools, Scunny were always a shade below us, even though we couldn't buy a win at their place. We were the ones attracting players that turned Scunny heads.
Then in 2006 we swapped places and since then there's only been one team in it. They don't have an inbuilt advantage over us—the town's as near a sister town to Hartlepool as you'd find anywhere—but they've been way better managed at all levels.

Now it's payback time. Notice however that I said better managed at all levels. Ronnie alone is not going to re-establish us as a third tier club with aspirations.

They've been promoted TWICE to the champ in that space of time. Yes I know you have to go down before you can go back up but it shows better than anything that promotion to the the Championship is not the reserve of the "traditional" clubs.
