Bingham and Fenwick would be the first choice strikers anyway. Paynter would be decent depth along with a giant.

Not overly excited if we sign him, hasn't scored many in recent seasons. Apparantly he was due to turn up to pre-season today but never turned up.

Always liked Paynter. Does seem to have gone off the boil recently. I reckon Ronnie could get him going again.

We should have kept 7ft 8 Darren Holden and trained him as a striker.

if you count connor smith as a forward then weve already got 4 at the club. then we want a target man too, how many strikers do we need? ronnies been speaking highly of oats in his blog, said hes going to surprise a few people this season

One league goal in two and a half years. That's worse than Howard.

No thanks Ronnie.

his overall game is good, without being prolific. I think he'd be a good signing

Agreed I think he would add something different from the bench be able to hold the ball up at least for others to bang it in the net

If he can't get a game at Carlisle why would we want him? (and was a bit disruptive whilst there as well?)

He's not like a Bingham who just didn't fit Mansfield's 'kick 'em up in the air' approach, he and his game are well known...

Not for me.

He and Curle had a major falling out (quite a few seem to not like Curles style). So I imagine it's more of face not fitting rather than not being good enough.

Indeed, Ronnie said he was looking for 'lump' type player so he'd fit the mould. Plan B option hopefully.

Fair enough if that's the case but that said, if he was one of their better players surely Curle would've sorted out their differences to help ensure their safety?

Ronnie Moore does seem to like keeping a Calvin Zola type up his sleeve.
But I don't think Paynter's your man as I've heard Dion Dublin is on his way.

Curle is an idiot and will be out of a job by Christmas.

Carlisle signed Jabo Ibehre from Colchester.......6' 2" target man.......replacement for Paynter leaving the door open for him to move? If he does come here I don't think he would be a bad option on the bench.

He had a few good seasons back then but the outbreak of WW2 weakened the squad and he got lazy.

All big ifs and if (another one) he comes and he's sat on the bench I would think that a player like him would not be happy and therefore try his heart out to get in the team.........not a bad scenario if he gets anywhere near the form he showed for Doncaster 2 seasons ago. yes only 13 goals in 40 odd games but still a goal scorer and a nuisance.

13 goals is more than our entire strikeforce managed in total last season.

paynter's a decent shout. will score goals at this level, and is a good solid pro who, at 30, is far from past it. even if it's only a squad signing, i'd trust the manager's judgement ahead of 99% of the fcukwits on here. if moore wants him in, its for a reason and i doubt it's as a first choice striker.

What makes him a "good solid pro"?

Starting legal procedings against a manager who asked him to do extra training?

Apparently Curle won't let any of the players wear a vest under their tops if it's cold, deffo no gloves, and he's banned anyone from wearing gel on their hair on matchdays or using moisturisers and fake tan. ......I know this to be true as a bloke who lives at the top of Belk Street who used to be a spongeman at Workington told me.:snooty:

I'd take a punt on him. Different to what we have; bit of a roughouse. Wasn't Barker a similar age when he came and his goals shot us back up to League 1. Not far short of 100 league goals so I'd get him in.

Barker was the top scorer in the division when we signed him.

He finished joint to goalscorer in the League on 21 with Izale McCloed, I think he scored 9 for us.

He might have took the golden boot if it wasn't for his fine save at Rochdale!

Pretty mad when you think about our slump that is was Joel Porter who came into team to 'fill in' for the last game against Bristol Rovers in which he scored in. Only for Rickie Lambert, who never did much after, to end our title ambitions.
