According to the York Press " Hartlepool keeper Scott Flinders, meanwhile, is expected to stay at the Victoria Ground despite City chief Russ Wilcox declaring an interest in his services".

No way would we be keeping him now we signed Carson, unless he was going to take a pittance of a wage which he wont do.

No point wasting a decent wage on a back up keeper. The signing of Crson was all the proof we needed that he is gone. Just the club wont announce it till he signs for Ross County.

I'm guessing a checked jacket, kipper tie and a hanky in his top pocket for spillages in the signing on photo with Billy Dodds.

to be honest if he was happy to have reduced terms and be 2nd choice, would it be a bad thing Carson is going to miss games due to international duty so we need someone for when these happen

I wouldn't call having Flinders as competition for Carson a waste of a wage. Especially if Carson's international commitments might cause him to miss games. Moore never mentioned another goalkeeper being targerted so possibly something in this.
Besides, if IOR are footing the wage bill I'm all for money being 'wasted'.

Would have to be very low wage imo.

Id even go as far as I wish we could get a young keeper from a big club on loan for season to sit on bench for free. Spend the money elsewhere.

Id be a bit gutted if were splashing out £800 a week minimum id presume or whatever on a back up keeper.

can't imagine any club will be happy loaning a keeper out who is never going to play apart from the international breaks. sure ronnie will have it sorted though come start of season.

It's almost like the 3 delaying were extremely confident of finding other clubs. and maybe not so many after them.

Agree with pooliecrab in that in Ronnie's tweet he did state goalkeeper Monday hopefully then striker and 2 wingers, no mention of a second keeper so may be there is some on going negotiations.

It's a possibility.

I don't think Flinders or Carson would want to be second choice. I think Flinders will leave and we'll get a young keeper in. That Joel Dixon was released from Sunderland.

Maybe the only offers were from Scunthorpe or Ross County !
Seriously there has never been any talk of him having trials, maybe a better option for him to stay at Pools and fight for his place albeit on reduced wages and hopefully move on, better on the inside looking out.

With Carson going away on international duty there will probably be a fair few opportunities for Flinders to get a go including the cup so perhaps he may just back his ability to win his spot back.

We only played one keeper for whole of last season.

Just put Ducky in for emergencies he is multi-skilled!
I can remember when John McPhail saved a penalty at Brighton then Brian Honour scored in injury time for a 1 1 draw to send the 400 traveling Poolies mental.

He'll be their new Ingram who made save after save against us. We'll just have to make sure we get plenty corners when we play them!

Sure they kept Ingham on as well. They've got decent cover for keeper.

I hope so!! Just been reading up on Ingham, apparently he's their no 2 for this season. Very surprising as he was pretty solid when we played them.

Good luck Scott, you were obviously rubbish in the majority your 270 odd games for the club going by some comments!

Very good keeper at his best maybe a move will help him find that best again which he had dipped short of, if Carson is as good we'll have a very decent keeper at this level.

Thinking of the pelters he's going to get at York away by some doyle for being one of the few players who kept us in this league is making me cringe already.

He'll do a job for them. Hope he's shit against us though but I won't be betting on it.

Been watching Pools for 40 odd years and Flinders is in my top three of Pools' keepers, not counting the loan signings.

Which is not to deny that:
a) Pools have had some seriously ropey goalies down the years;
b) last season was Scott's worst since he came to the club.

All the best young man!

I don't see how anyone can say he kept us in the league. Yes I will credit him with a few good saves at the end of the season but the first three quarters of the season he was like the invisible man.

so now it's 8 players gone and 6 brought in. trust ronnie to bring in the 3 he wants as well as loans when season started.

ultimately think this came down to flinders not being worth the wages he had managed to build up to in a 6 year spell, mainly at a higher level than now.

Well for me personally I don't really rate flinders, he's a good shot stopper but most goalies are to be honest! It's the other side of goalkeeping thats really important like dominating your area, communicating, distribution etc and I don't really think flinders is particularly good at any of those!

A few good saves?

Yeah I didn't think he had a great season up until Moore came in, but you can't just look at a goalkeeper to explain a -1million goal difference. The defence in front of him was shocking at times last season and has been for the majority of his time here. Without the numerous last minute saves like this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zYsuXlsmN2s last season, there's no way we would have stayed up.

At times I stood there last season and just watched his facial expressions of disbelief as we were cut open time and time again. Admittedly, his distribution was poor but to me that was more because nobody ever asked for the ball in our half.

He can't come for corners and he can't kick out of his hands, other than that he's a top keeper for any league 2 club.

And without the numerous fuck ups there is no way we would have been own there. All keepers make good saves, it's impossible not to, the amount of errors is what marks a good keeper from the rest.

Good luck to the lad, I liked Scottie but I think he needs to move on. Very similar to when Gary Liddle moved on, he just needs a new challenge. I expected him to get a higher move though.

Very good comparison, according to the experts Liddle was rubbish and wanted scattering when he was just out of form.

Sometimes players go stale at a club, especially at Pools which has let's be honest has been 'going off' for a while. A move can be the best thing for a player.

I think the Liddle comparison is an excellent one.

Scott Flinders will be a league footballer for a long time, good luck to him.

Was only a few years back he was apparently being watched by premier league and championship sides. Always been a capable keeper, distribution has always been suspect but that's probably why he's not playing at a higher level.

Been one of the better players for us over the last few years, it stands to reason that as the team in front of him gets worse and he has to field more shots then he's going to make more errors, if he didn't he wouldn't be playing in league 2!

As for dominating his area... I would say that in all my time watching Pools, Scott Flinders at his best is the best I have seen at judging crosses and catching them at their highest point. His shot-stopping was excellent, but when he was on his game there was much more to him than that.

That said, I would agree that this is a good time to part company. Like most players, last season was not a good one for him. We are replacing him at his most replaceable. Others have mentioned Liddle and I would agree. Like Liddle, this could be a good move for all parties.

Thanks Scott and good luck

Personally think Dimi was by far the best at commanding his area, but good luck to Scott, in his time he was a very capable keeper here and better than most.

I wish Scott Flinders best of luck.

There was a theory, season before last I think, when Flinders was man of the match more or less every week, that it's easy for a keeper to shine when the defence is bad. In the light of last season do people now agree that in fact he really did shine previously?

His time was up. There's no rhyme or reason to it, but players get to a point where they've been somewhere too long and change is wanted by both sides.
All the best to him, but there was a certain inevitability about his departure.

I think there is something to that. Goalkeepers tend to stand out more in a poor side due to that there's less pressure on them as they're expected to concede a few. Add that with the amount of shots they'll face in one game, they'll still come out with plaudits due to how impressive it was to keep the score down to one or two.

I can't have explained myself properly. Never mind, it happens all the time.

I meant that lots of people (well, Tree anyway) wouldn't give Flinders any credit that season because of the reason you've just given. But Flinders' performance was, by all accounts, different this season, wasn't it? If the theory were correct, his performances would have been similar both seasons. In fact, he played well in one and not so well in the other. I rest my case.

Anyway, I'm sure he'll get back to top form at York.

he has ended up with the same derisory comments that Barron, Humphreys got because he played for a bit too long for pools.

All three deserve far more respect than they get on here.
