I remember one of the seasons in the third tier where we broke the record for the distance we had to travel to away games. Well I reckon we will beat that next year. I reckon at least three of the teams coming down from League One will be from the wrong part of the UK, Barnet are coming up, and I reckon Brizzle Rovers will join them.

Away days are equally crap/great in loads of different areas, but it's nice not to have to travel so far for them. Nailed on we have got the following next year:

Barnet
Yeovil
One, two or all three from Orient, Colchester and Crawley
Three from Wycombe, Southend, Stevenage and Plymouth
Luton
Newport
Exeter
Northampton
Oxford
Dagenham
Wimbledon
Portsmouth
Cambridge

With a little light relief provided by:
Morecambe
Accrington
York
Carlisle
Mansfield

Possibly but unlikely:
Crewe
Notts County

And the only northern hope from the Conference is Grimsby, against Brizzle Rovers, Eastleigh or Forest Green.

The London sides all make for good away days, but Stevenage, Yeovil, Wycombe and Northampton are the pits from a fan perspective. And as much as I like Exeter, it's a fucking long way to drive, even for me in the midlands.

Let's hope next season is one like the Wilson season, where we would turn up everywhere in huge number expecting to win, and usually did.

Think how much better you'll look for a bit of late October sunshine.

The town itself might be shit but I really enjoyed the old high street and the away end has covered terracing. You would know of course if you went to games

Each to there own I guess, would certainly much prefer to go there than Colchester which was the other team to come down.

Well done on getting to an away game though

By my calculations - google maps wise - The average distance to the confirmed teams in league 2 next season is 420 miles (round trip) - from Victoria Park.

With the teams remaining in the picture - the average round trip next season is between 440 miles and 466 miles.

Does that beat previous seasons?

Serious proposal - Is it time to bring back the separation of Northern and Southern teams for Leagues 1 and 2.

Economically and Ecologically it makes sense.

No way. Next season will be a one-off, it will balance back out again geographically.

We would have no London away days for starters. Or the chance of a weekend on the south coast, or any other type of interesting away day. It's not like a lot of the northern teams travel in big numbers anyway. How many did Accy bring to ours? And Morecambe? Bury?

There probably aren't enough Northern clubs at this end of the Football League for it to make much sense. Walsall used to be a favourite joker card when it came to dividing the leagues into regions. That's how far down the country the divide was and I believe it's only drifted farther south since.
I seem to remember one season where Colchester were in the NORTHERN section of the JPT or whatever it was called then.

Its a bit lower down but look at the Conference North and you have teams like Oxford and Gloucester.

Morecambe

Carlisle
Mansfield
and hopefully Grimsby

The northern powerhouse of League 2?
