Obviously they are devastated at going down.....but about 95% of posters remain positive and dignified. Even discussing what the team will be for last game of the season. Obviously they are hoping to get back into the Football League.....the quicker the better but the general consensus is 3-6 seasons. I felt for the lad who posted the 'games we should have won' thread......citing about 6 games that they should have won (Pools are mentioned) but at the end of the season, they just couldn't score enough goals.

They should go back to Friday night footie and they'll draw in big crowds. If managed right they'll be the big fish in the Vanarama Conference

They've got to be the biggest fish to have gone down. Remember they won the League cup as recently as 1990.

They got to the final in 97ish losing to Leicester don't think they ever won it. Luton did in 87 though I think and they spent ages in the conference.

Luton, Bristol Rovers and Tranmere the biggest though I'd agree.

Thats me told for not checking. I thought they had won it and I didn't realise their trip to the final was as recent as 2000 either.

To put being the Conference in context, when did Pools last play Halifax? Where are Stockport now? How many years between Pools playing Newport regularly and starting to play them again? It's a place you just don't want to be and thankfully we aren't, and we must never rub shoulders with it. Again. Ever.

It isn't as bad as it used to be now they have 2 promotion spots but it's still pretty rough.

Bristol rovers had 11,000 there on Saturday to watch a 7-0 victory, I dare guess that some championship teams don't get that regularly.

I hope you don't mind me chipping in..... at first I thought it was a little insulting to suggest that Ronnie should have a statue just for us finishing in 90th place. But reading this thread has made me realise just what a massive, massive achievement it was. It is chilling to look at those teams who have disappeared. And we'd never have come back from this.

At the last count there were 11 ex league teams in the conference that I had visited watching Pools.
And that didn't include Darlington, Scarboro, Stockport, Boston, Maidstone or Rushden and Diamonds.

Never made it back - several people have said it is easier to stay in L2 than get out of The Conference- Pools going down would have had us being tipped as the next Hereford or Darlo.

My worry is that you tend to have teams who linger in the bottom four for a few seasons before dropping down. It's usually the likes of Torquay and Macclesfield. We've flirted with relegation two years running now, we desperately need to make a break into the top half next season before it becomes habit forming.

And just to make it all the more bizarre, if we had not got a point in that last league game with that header by sweeney/daley (can never remember which way round they were) we would not have played Tranmere that day...........Bournemouth would have.

And in the same season Tranmere go out of the league, much to our good fortune, where are Bournemouth going?

Another club that are lower than the conference you're right.
Though I've never watched Pools there.
Or Barrow, or Workington.
But all in my time supporting Pools.
In all there's pretty much a full division of teams that are ex Football League.

Nice to see Barrow and Workington both having good seasons, northern 'wilderness' clubs fighting back. With Barnet and possibly Bristol Rovers, Eastleigh or Forest Green coming up (Grimsby aside), and Yeovil, Colchester, Orient and Crawley (as it stands now) coming down, there's some fair old trekking for us to do next season.

I'm sure Hereford were wound up earlier this season?
