I was getting a loud knocking from the front of the car in time with the wheels but it only happened when braking at low speed. I could feel the knocking through the pedel too.

Iv had new discs and pads fitted as they were badly warped. For 5-7 days it was fine and the knocking had gone but it gradually came back.

I took it back to the garage and they took the brakes apart again, gave them all a good clean and again things were fine for a week or so but then the knocking came back.

Any ideas? It must be something coming loose if it doesn't do it straight after the car has been worked on??

Have you checked the mechanic is not in the engine?

Failing that, turn it off and on again!

Sound like it could be a caliper problem or maybe a range of suspension and steering issues. It definitely needs looking at in case it is a caliper. Does it pull to one side when you brake?

No it doesn't pull, not noticed any heat but will check when I get to work tomorrow.

To be honest I drove for about 3 months with it knocking and it didn't get worse but it got to the point where I was trying to brake as little as possible which can never be a good thing.

Googled 'brakes knocking at low speed' and loads have similar problem but have never got to the bottom of it?

Check your tyre pressures.

So something is problematic when it gets hot. Seriously get it looked at. Without seeing the car this is all guesswork so on the basis that it is possibly brake related the thing needs sorting for the sake of you, your passengers or anyone else you kill when your brakes fail.

Cheers all.

Have you tried switching it off and back on again?
Or have you tried turning the volume up on the radio?

Why would that only cause the knocking at low speed and why it would only occur around 7 days after discs etc were fitted back on?

If it was a DARLOW fan it would be more like an irritating whining noise that you'll never get rid of.

I've got the same problem on my car at the minute, suspension went so got a new spring fitted, was okay for a week or so and the knocking came back, took it to the garage and on inspection they couldn't find anything wrong. He took it for a drive and listened to it and knew straight away - something to do with the drop link. Only £10-£15 to fix.

Well problem is still there.

I no longer think its just related to braking but am also getting a loud clunk when coming to a stand still from front of car. Car has been in garage jacked up 3 times and each time it comes out fine for a day or two and then comes back. I cant help but feel it must be something to do with front springs? ie jacking the car up somehow fixes it and then takes a while to go back to 'normal'? Seems worse with a passenger too.

Had MOT done and no problem with front springs etc though so im baffled.

Have you tried to get into your doctors, the knocking could all be in your head.

 Its at the point now when I stop at the gates at work for the bloke to scan my pass that they often comment "what the hell was that?" when I come to a stop. Otherwise I would be tempted by the doctors!

Let me know if you manage to get the problem sorted - I've had mine looked at a few times now, new suspension and drop links put in, and like you mine comes out of the garage okay for a couple of days. Sounds like I'm having the same problem, although mine isn't affected by the braking.

Nope still a loud clunk/knock when i come to a stand still. Garages cant seem to find anything wrong.

I can mask the problem by turning the radio up.

This is exactly what Í do when the neighbours' dogs let loose. A very sound solution I might add, except that my neighbours tend to "disappear" after a coupla weeks wot.
