Came across last night a post about pools on the ready to go message board about 75 posts all but one person wanting us to stay up. Was surprised how many actually went to watch us. Fair play to them.

In my experience the vast majority of Sunderland fans have an affinity with Pools.

If away end holds it then why not pointless having empty places in the away end.

I'm not sure if one end has been totally closed though bob which is where the extra 1700 would come from

Always been that way, if they heard some of the things said about them in the past they wouldn't be so keen to lend us their support. Think its more the ones from Sunderland/South Tyneside mind, the East Durham Sunderland supporting yakkers generally hate Hartlepool

I worked at Boldon a few years ago where the rest of the staff were about 50/50 Mags/Mackems. The Sunderland supporters were decent blokes with a genuine interest in Pools - The Mags were generally self obsessed wankers who thought they were up there with Barcelona etc and couldn't understand why I didn't support a "real" team.

Agreed, I work at Peterlee and the Mackem fans will engage you in conversation and are genuinely interested in how Pools are doing, whereas the Mag fans generally think it's beneath them to ask or don't even know we exist.

That's boloocks that like. I work in Newcastle in a yard with over a thousand blokes mostly mags and they all are supportive of pools and are constantly asking if we'll stay up etc and look out for our results. I was worried when I 1st started up here 4 year ago because I'd heard they didn't like "monkey hangers" but it was all bollocks. Had no trouble with them and like i say the lads on here all seem to want us to stay up. They have banter with the mackems as expected but there's no pools abuse on the bog walls whatsoever

I live in Newcastle and, believe me, they barely know Pools exist. But speak as you find etc. When I first moved up to Newcastle I went to a local pub (all alone, all by myself with nobody with me) to watch Pools play Huddersfield, we had a good team and won 2-0 (Betsy, Tinks). The few locals who payed any attention slagged it off saying the standard of football was "crap".

This. I live in Sunderland and quite a few have a soft spot for us.

I've always found Geordies to be arrogant, obnoxious and condescending as fuck when it comes to football. They live off past glories of 40-50 years ago yet in reality they consistently under achieve.

They think because they have a big catchment area that this gives them the title of the best team in the north east, yet when was the last time they actually won anything?

They also seem to conveniently forget the days when they got crowds of 11-12,000 pre the Keegan era, I'm almost sure they got sub 10,000 crowds at one point.

When it comes to news reporting from Tyne Tees and BBC on local football, the bias towards Newcastle is fucking embarrassing, makes me wanna puke.

I also detest the number of plastic Geordies in our town, most of them probably never been anywhere near Sid James Park in their sad lives.

Whenever you meet a plastic Geordie who claims to have supported them through thin times, ask them who the manager was prior to Keegan taking over. Watch the eyes glaze over.

There are plenty of decent, proper Newcastle fans around, but a lot of shit-for-brains plastics as well.

And you can probably find about 80,000 geordie fans who'll swear blind that they've never missed a home game for the last forty years.

I hate the way after the football they then cover the other sports from Newcastle... even the basketball team gets more coverage than Pools.
Coincidentally, can we do something about the council van full of Newcastle 'paraphernalia' driving around town or give me a rates rebate...?

We did get a plug tonight from Mark Tulip on Look North that we'd reduced prices tomorrow but I agree Snowy, our coverage on local news is poor. Couldn't beat the old Back Page programme in the early 90's and coverage of the promotion push under Cyril & Alan Murray.

Agree about the basketball team Snowy.

I was listening to the news on Heart FM the other day when they came to mention the weekends sport. They spoke about how fantastic newcastle basketball is blah blah blah, then moved on to the football. " The less said about the football the better as Newcastle lost, only Hartlepool won but we don't want to talk about them"!

They then went on to wax lyrical about the Toon's fantastic basketball team, Barcelona of the basketball world etc etc etc!

I couldn't hit the off button quick enough.

I stopped listening to TFM years ago because of their sponsorship of Darlows white elephant ( The 96.6 TFM Arena), Heart FM can fuck right off n'all!
