no but I don't like utd, I do have a soft spot for Arsenal though, ever since my dad told me about when they were the only team in the league to answer pools plee for a new strip in the 50's or 60's after a fire left them without gear.... and no one plays purer football than them at present

Wasn't it Man City that gave us their kit? We ended up playing the season in sky blue, early 70s?

Nah that was our own kit...but that one DID catch fire in 73 so Chelsea donated a set of Dark Blue shirts (with CFC "Lion" badge!) which we played in for a while, and Hereford supplied the White Away kit.

Di Maria and that shite winger who scored 2 against Sunderland about a year ago and everyone was wanking over him. Januzai or something.

Cracking match, and a brilliant performance from the ref.

I hated them when they were shite, I hate them now, all those years at the top and only one more league title then the better reds, and the better reds have won the European cup more times too.

But in all fairness, there's only one United and its Hartlepool, all the rest can fuck right off

Fully agreed, like you 'not enjoying footie' at the moment, Man U was my 'Dad's team' (sorry for being touchy)...but for the money LVG has spent, they are shit.
Beat Morecambe, and that will do.....for now

Manchester Utd are the cancer of football anyone with brains and not a short memory will tell you that.

Very well put, and it gives me plenty of glee to see their current plight.

Mr Wardrobe, I admire your defence of them, but a team who pulled out of defending something as sacred as the FA Cup to earn an extra couple of million deserves all the shite they get.

We took the bairn to old Trafford for a guided tour a few weeks back. She had seen the outside of old Trafford and thought it would be great to have a tour. I must say that I REALLY did not want to set foot in the place but it was actually WORSE than I thought it would be. The people associated with that club are the most arrogant pompous twats I've ever met. Honestly , they think they are above football. Everything they do is better than everyone else, the whole world aspires to be man u. I was taken aback by how awful it was and I went in to it fearing the worst. Twats.

Confirmed my worst fears there, but I'm disappointed you did the tour.

Have to agree, took my seven year old for the tour last October when we were in Manchester for a few days. It was stomach churning just walking into the ground alongside a succession of glory hunters from around the world.

The tour was smugness personified and the gadgie who took us round was the smuggest individual I have had the misfortune to encounter. Marching round in his Manchester United blazer like Alan Partridge on crack, peddling well rehearsed gags and mocking anyone who didnt have his vast knowledge of 'united'. I could just imagine him practicing his routine in front of the mirror at home, the complete and utter twat.

As we were being rushed round the stadium I noticed several other large groups being ferried around at the same time. They must make an absolute fortune out of this as it wasnt cheap for the two of us.

As we left the stadium into the rain of Manchester I vowed to never ever step foot in that monstrosity again.

Please, anyone reading this, don't ever do this tour, especially if you have bairns with you. Maybe I'm a bit harsh on my kids, but I will never pay for anything to do with a Premiershit side, no matter how much they pester.

I've been inside the ground just once, when our youth team had a good run in the FA Youth Cup about a dozen years ago and I thought they deserved the support. Even in a tournament such as that you still had obnoxious twats singing "you've only come to see united", and being more interested in trying to get a reaction from us than in watching the game. I can't imagine the circumstances that would see me set foot inside the place again. I have no time for the club and haven't so much as watched them on TV for about 15 years. I'm delighted to hear that they're a bit shit but I've still no interest in watching them even if you could guarantee that they'd get hammered.

I was at that game, remember we were winning 2-1, but lost 3-2. Don't recall any singing from any fans.....crowd was maybe 3K, atmosphere was dead from the home fans, nobody sang anything....

I've only ever been once and that was an England game, in the days of Steve 'for shhhuuurrre' McClaren, for a hard fought 0-0 draw with Macedonia. I must admit these reports of this tour make me want to get in the car drive to Manchester and set fire to the place. I can picture the faces of these smug Manc not nice people spouting shite in blazers about 'unie-ted'

Google is a wonderful thing for stats, all fans were in one 'corner' of the ground, there was no singing, if there was , I would have heard it....and it would have pissed me off !
I remember being surprised how many Pools fans had made the trip on a weekday night, crowd was almost 50/50.

'Supporting' Man Utd is the soft option for everyone without the character to support a proper team. The whining brotherhood of the insecure, desperate to achieve success by association.

Its a bit like 20 years ago when there were more plastic geordies wearing newcastle tops in our town than hartlepool.
But what pisses me of the most is born n bread hartlepool people saying WE when they claim to be fans of man u n liverpool and then to piss you off even more if pools drew them in the cup they want pools to lose. WHAT ABSOLUTE FUCKEN KNOBHEADS!

Most manure "supporters" haven,t even been to a game, they have used a tragic loss of lives in the 50.s as an excuse to "follow" them. Pathetic! rakxe

Oh FFS I'm not going round in circles on this one. You don't remember any nobheads singing shite; I do. It happened. It happened whether you remember it or not, and I didn't Google anything

A guy who lives in our village is a born Liverpool fan and he goes regularly to Liverpool games. He sometimes takes his son who is in primary school.
He is bringing his son up to be a Liverpool fan and I haven't a problem with that. His son was born in Doncaster.
My Daughter was born in Donny and she has been brought up a Hartlepool fan, so we're both in the same boat.
I was talking to the young lad about who everyone in his class supports. He said a lot of the kids chop and change depending on who is the team of the moment. Man Utd "support" in his class is on the decline. This is what kids do and the majority of parents go along with it, even to the point of decorating the kid's bedroom in the club of their choice colours and going on the likes of tours etc.
I have only been on one tour of a big club and that was Barcelona and I've got to admit I thoroughly enjoyed it. I met Bobby Robson, who was their manager at the time, and we had a good chat, mainly about Pools. I told him that I was at Portman Road to see Pools play, his then club, Ipswich Town in the Cup, in which Ipswich went on to beat Arsenal in the final (1978). Robson then waxed lyrical about the tremendous support Pools had that day and re-iterated what he had said straight after that match, which was "if we had 20,000 supporters like that, we would win everything."
I didn't buy any Barca merchandise but I really enjoyed the tour.
I have been on the Harry Potter studio tour and was amazed at the fanaticism displayed by the majority who were there. The ooohs and aaaahs and squeals of delight at the merchandise available, all at extortionate prices, had to be seen to be believed. I couldn't get out quick enough, but there you go.

Barca are the only example of a "big" club who I really admire. An example of a modern day powerhouse club where the fans really do matter. It's definitely on my bucket list to go the Nou Camp.

And another thing, the gadgie who took us round started by asking if we all supported "United". Sure enough, everyone bar our lass (who is a Mag) and me did. Honestly the patronising tone of the fucker when i told him (and the other muppets there) I supported Pools was dreadful.

I was so tempted to bring up the 6-0 game but I knew if i did that they wouldnt beleive it! They wont have even knew that 'United' existed prior to the 'glory years' once Fergie got them sorted out.

The trouble is they don't see football as we see it. To them it's just a soap opera .. a sort of celeb thing.

In both your cases the correct answer should have been "Fuck yeah! Not this aplology for a United though."

Real Madrid run them very close, considering their supporters' and managers' cringeworthy reaction to that fantastic game on Tuesday, when they should have been chuffed to bits at having watched one of the most entertaining matches for years, and you know, actually qualifying for the next fucking round.

But Real didn't lose on the day because Schalke were good. They lost because Real were irredeemably bad.
Not one person from the club acknowledged they were beaten on the day by a team that quite simply outshone them. In fact I don't think they even noticed who they were playing.

Christ, even the purple nosed boot thrower admitted it when he came up against a better team. (I'm not implying I like Manchester United or owt like.)
