While you are there see if there's anyone hanging round outside the bookies.

Maybe Ebby Nelson-Addy as a replacement for Woodsy.

This is Western (of the pasta variety) music at it's best. As desolate and ominous as our situation. Where's John fucking Wayne when you need him.

I'm old enough to remember the dross that clogged up the charts before The Beatles came along. The names of Frank Ifield, Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson, Mark Wynter, Helen Shapiro and Susan Maugham still give me palpitations. Before The Beatles Cliff Richard was considered hip, cool and ever-so-slightly dangerous. The only cool pop music stars were American. Whether you like them or not, you can never really appreciate what The Beatles did for British (and particularly Northern British) music unless you experienced what preceded them.
Thank you.

To be fair, those singers sung what they were told to sing, i.e., vapid MOTR crap. The idea of anyone writing their own songs had people rolling in the aisles.

I'm pretty sure Helen Shapiro was very talented. With her deep voice, in another era, and with a different mindset, she might have been another Joan Armartrading.
As for Susan Maugham, she's a County Durham lass so she gets a free pass. She taught me how to yodel.
