AFC Wimbledon understood to be only league 2 club to vote against it!

"There was also discussion about that day’s Football League (FL) meeting which was understood to have authorised the FL executive to finalise proposals to allow Premier League ‘B’ teams to enter the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, with AFC Wimbledon being the only League Two club to vote against."

Why didn't any of the other lower league teams vote against it??

I would be surprised if this is really the case.

Why is it assumed that everybody is in thrall to the premiership? The F.A. (and the Football League) seems to be under the illusion that supporters of lower League Clubs would love to see their teams playing, for example, Stoke City stiffs rather than "the likes of" York City, Rochdale and Walsall. Bullshit. I rarely watch televised games but if Brechin City against Forfar Athletic was televised I'd give it a go, even if it was just for novelty/curiosity value. Anything's better than watching that twat John Terry lift another trophy.

The premiership is a global brand and whilst we might be satisfied with watching burton v Portsmouth, other countries want to watch the best players.

"The Premiership is a global brand" is a disheartening phrase that sums up why football is going down the shitter. The hype gets bigger and bigger while the "product" gets worse and worse. It's like a microcosm of modern society, a handfull get sickeningly rich while the rest can go to hell. I just wish the threatened Euro-League had got off the ground so the "top 4" from the "top 4" could have just played each other for eternity.

Me too. Use of phrases like Global brands just makes me despair.

It's not the, much missed, Bill Hicks Mr Mutley - it's Snr Antonio Carlos (Tom) Jobim, Bossa Nova maestro and IMHO one of the greatest composers of the 20th Century, cigar smoker and all round great bloke! Look him up on youtube - he's very easy listening and loungey though.

Wedge, end, thin, the, of: rearrange into a well-known phrase or saying.

If 23 clubs voted yes or abstained, they must have seen something in it for themselves. And I guess there would be supporters-run clubs among those -- Wimbledon aren't the only one in the division are they?

Can just hear Tildsley is it? and that dreadful boro pretend Irish pundit waxing lyrical about the superior skills of some Chelsea under 19 reserve who never plays a first team game anywhere in his career...

:angry-screaming:

Wasn't the idea to allow the smaller clubs the chance to play in a Wembley final??
I'd vote an astounding NO to having PL 'B teams' in such competition as doubt it would put that much more on the gate anyway.

If they want their stiffs to have 1st team experience then they can send them out on loan...

If this does go ahead, that'll be it for me and football. I'd rather england never won a World Cup again than see Pools (although it won't effect us) play a bunch of 19 year old dickheads who think they've reached the big time because they've got a deal at west Brom.

If we stayed in the League and played JPT for another 20 years we'd still never get to the Final.

I'm struggling to get worked up one way or the other about the future of a minor competition that Pools have always been completely shite in.

But hands off the Durham Senior Cup!
