I was going to have a go at doing the tiling in my kitchen, well it does look fairly straight forward, but the mrs banned me from trying it, I am to DIY what Salty is to cars and computers though

I had a go once. Kitchen area, around the stove and under the window. Done most of it before i realised I'd only used the plain tiles and forgot about the patterned ones :uhoh:

Cutting them into the small area's was a nightmare, i broke loads

That was 5 years ago, and to my knowledge, only 2 have fallen off behind the bread bin.

I am the most un-handiest person in the universe, but i did it :sweeeet:

I did the whole bathroom and found it easy but only after I had bought an electric tile cutter from Argos, buy tile spacers and use a chalk line to get you started.

It took a while but I did enjoy doing it and the results look great.

Mine was self spacing, i used a tiling saw and no bob line. If you tilt your head left slightly they look perfectly straight :uhoh:

all it takes is a bit of planning
keep them level and make your cuts in the blind corners
simple

like poolpower said its canny easy but its a long and boring job IMO i done our bathroom and would probably do it myself again in my own house. to do it privately i would be charging decent dosh, tilers round here charge any where from tenner per m2 fiddle to 20-25 quid self employed.

as blue monkey said buy an electric tile cutter 30 quid in b and q and make sure you spread the adhesive out evenly. if you need any trims chrome etc theres a shop in darlo called no frills diy its a subsiduary of focus i think and they are dirt cheap in there they are behind the b n q in the town nr scrapyards..

good luck

Personally I agree with ECG, its an art and it has to be learnt. Anyone one here can tile a bathroom its not difficult. The skill is getting it to look professional and thats where us DIY-ers fall down.

I did, it looked shite and cost more that it did to get a tiler in. In the end I ripped it all down again and got someone in.

get a professional, you cant rely on tv adverts and B&Q gadgets to get you through! as for 'keeping them level... if your walls ceiling base point are perfectly square then it might work, but really, is that all your spare time is worth?

A pro will do it quicker better and you can be in the pub whilst its happening

Absolute no brainer stpid

Honestly mate, by the time you've pissed about buying diamond cutters and top price adhesive and grout the cost will be similar to the money you give a professional.

You take a look at any bathroom and the difference between a proper job and a diy job is very obvious.
