Official Bunker Announcement.

On the 28th May there will be a re-release of a new recording of the Dire Straits song 'Brothers in Arms' which was written about the Falklands War. This release is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary commemorations in June and the aim is to get it to the top of the charts for the commemorations. Mark has done a special recording with a very different arrangement, its very intimate and feels more personal.

To date over 300 veterans have killed themselves though the mental trauma of the events of 1982. This compares with the 255 who died in the fighting. All profits from the record are going to help Falklands Veterans who are suffering with PTSD return to the islands and lay their ghosts.

There are some real star turns in the music industry and believe it or not, getting this together was a lot easier than the Monkeyhangerz CD: Mark Knopfler of course along with his management Paul Crockford. Adam Barker and Clive Cawley from Universal Music / Mercury records. All these guys have given up their time for free and forgone all claims to royalties as indeed have iTunes and the other digital media outlets.

I would be very disappointed if this was not supported by you lot when the time comes.

I love the song anyway, so I, like I am sure most people on here, will buy it.

That is a very chilling statistic.

Count me in for a copy.

I don't agree with your 'love' of Maggie T.

This was shown on the big screens when we went to see them at Newcastle City Hall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5JkHBC5lDs

Of all the many many gigs I have seen over the years this was the best lights during a concert I have ever seen.

When brothers in arms played the audience was spellbound with what was shown on the screens and the lights and his music.

Brill concert.

Interesting argument going on youtube about this song (scroll down under this vid)

You did not desert me
My brothers in arms

You would have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by those lines.

there are just some songs which cut through all the various genres of music, such that no matter what you listen to, it is impossible to not recognise its sheer brilliance. Brothers In Arms has that ultimate quality, the way it's written, sang and played. Absolutely amazing track.

This version is very very different. The original had a studio feel to it and was very polished. This version is much more raw and sounds almost live. Also the guitar solo is far far superior to the original.
