Think I might try and force myself this year. I'll probably end up on the phone to the Samaritans within fifteen minutes though.

They're pretty good at explaining on the UK coverage.

I think its best to watch and learn the game from someone who understands it, otherwise it passes you by a bit.

I watch it every year....and every year I fall asleep at some point. I try to work out what the stats, player positions and tactics are all about. But fail.

I tried to watch it last time it was on at Wembley I think on Channel 4 or 5. I lasted about 10 mins. Any sport that has a live concert on before or at half time really can't be that entertaining. I know you sometimes get singers at half time at footy but a microphone is the extent on their equipment. The yanks obviously can't just do that they have to erect a stage and have pyrotechnics. Cheerleaders are worth a watch mind.

Dress up in as much protective gear as you can.....

Run towards a line of equally dressed 'athletes' carrying a ball slighty smaller than a rugby ball

run into said group of men and put the ball on the ground - with a bit of luck you've moved the ball forward a few inches -

Jump around whooping and hollering - have a 5 minute rest

repeat the above, with the ball changing teams every 4 goes each.....

A game where big fella's in lycra have a bit of rough and tumble with each other while the little fella's run a bout a bit trying to catch a ball that one of them chucks. All in high vis and safety gear so they don't get hurt.

Usually lasts 46 hours with about an hour of actual play, punctuated by adverts (commercials I believe the American's call them, or messages from our sponsors). Sometimes the ref will call for "commercials" while he takes a break.

Then at the end of the game the owner of the club, or "franchise" as the Americans call it, fuck off and take the "franchise" to another more deserving town/city. Some cynical people would say it was because the people who live in the current location have all bought a replica shirt and so moving to another one can only help the sales line.

They have squads of about 80 and they have a bloke who all he does is run on every now and again to kick it, then fucks off again for an hour or so in the bar before he has to do it again.

It's about as much fun as Wrestling which is where big fella's in lycra have a bit of a rough and tumble while touching each other up to a choreographed routine of bouncing into each other and jumping on one another. Sometimes the big lads wear masks and have long hair and they say nasty things about each other. Usually means they fancy each other like at school.

Sometimes, and this is dead funny and that, one of their mates runs in from nowhere and he jumps into the ring and does a bit of a dance with the other wrestler and they have a bit of a three some, and 2 of them gang up on another. That poor sod gets touched up all over the place by the others. One might pull his leg while the other tickles him under the arm.

They give themselves funny names as well and dress up like their names suggest they should. Like the Undertaker and Spunkface.

They do look funny like when they get a pretendy smash in the face, usually after being bounced off the ropes, and they stand there looking all dazed and then fall over.

Brilliant. I love American sport. Mainly cos it's about the competition and money isn't important.

Oh and baseball is fucking rounders. Rounders is a game played by school girls.

Same here, very entertaining to watch. I went as far as purchasing the NFL GamePass this year which is quality. Almost every game in HD and all the TV shows they make.

I quite like American football but I just don't want to commit 3 or 4 hours to watching more gaps than actual playing time.
My favourite sporting tournament begins next Friday evening and all the matches are on at sensible times. I'll be watching all 15 of them.
In the company of a pint or 15, natürlich.

Yeah the thing that's always puzzled me is how kids ever get into playing the game. With our football all you need is a football, some jumpers for goalposts a bit space, enough for two teams, and away you go.

With American Football you need about 30 refs, some blokes with chains, 5 timekeepers, huge posts, a pitch marked out yard by yard, 2 first aid teams, its not like you could just go out for a kickabout with your mates after tea.

Great game so far!

New England should easily be ahead bit that's is what Seattle's defence does to teams.

Should be a good finish!

We invented the worlds best game called football a game played predominently with your feet and which the whole planet has taken to.

The Americans eventually catch up and decide to adopt it in a small way but call it fookin ****** ( I can,t stand the name!) :angry-screaming:

They invent the most stupid, boring game ever and call it American football, a game played with a ball shaped like a Rugby ball ( also invented by us) but call it American "football"played predominently with your hands. sctatchinghead Americans! GRRRRRR!

No! I did not watch it!

Love the sport , been a Patriots fan for a few years now and I can honestly say it's the most entertaining sport I've ever watched (except lower league football) great game last night very hard fought , broken wrist a concussion and a little brawl at the end ! Went to the games at London this year and can't wait to go again :?

We invented bugger all. The only thing we did was code the rules.
There were 100,000 different team ball games at the time. Some eventually condensed into ball handling games, others into feet-only games. American football is not derived from rugby (officially called rugby football); it was a parallel evolution of stuff that had been going on for a hundred years. They coded their rules in pretty much the same time frame as AF and RF, i.e., late 1800s. They later changed them to what they are today for the sole reason of reducing the number of fatalities.

And if the English don't like the word S O C C E R, they shouldn't have bloody invented it in the first place. People who are obsessed by American English need to get over it.
