Just watching Hull vs Newcastle. Just before 20 mins the Mags fans applauded the two fans that died travelling to a pre-season game, then less than a minute later Hull were clapping for a young fan that died. How long before supporters are clapping the whole game?
Things like this I could tolerate for one game but carrying on for the full season is a joke. Fans die all the time, I'd guess at least once a week but for some reason certain ones get media attention.

On another general football note. Hull had a goal disallowed for blatant handball, almost like Maradona's hand of god. If this prevented a goal at the other end it would result in a red card. Why is denying a goalscoring opportunity any different by cheating to creating one by cheating? Both should be red for me.

OK I see your point but if the goal stood, where's the justice? It would have effectively altered the score then would it not?
In your own words it 'if his action is spotted' does that not stand in both cases?

I think your logic is a little bit entangled, Mr Crab.
Cheating in general should be punished equally, wherever it happens. What form such punishment actually takes is another matter.

If there's an argument to be made it's probably that when there's a professional foul, the player should receive the standard cheating punishment and no more unless it's a particularly nasty foul. The wronged team gets its one-to-one with the goalkeeper anyway when a penalty ensues. Then just to correct the last logical flaw, a penalty should be given even if the foul or handball is outside the box.

I agree that a sending off for a handball, when considering it's the same for a potentially career ending foul, is harsh. But if it is at one end of the pitch why isn't it at the other.
All things considered, straight red cards should be reserved for the type of butchery shown by Roy Keanne on Alfe Inge Haarland.

As for denying a goal scoring opportunity MadJohn, think Suarez against Ghana in the 2010 World Cup. Blatant cheating like that surely warrants more than just a penalty. It was on the line with no one behind him, in the last minute. The resultant penalty was missed and Ghana went out on pens after this.
