Why did British soldiers go to Murmansk in the North of Russia just after the war?

Talking about British, Germans, and Murmansk, I once had the good fortune, on my very first outing on a snow scooter, to be landed with a group of Germans who'd rode down from Murmansk, a mere 500+ kilometres of experience away.
And there were two people on my scooter when they had a whole one each. But you know, I was cool about it. I made a big effort to hold back and let them keep up.

Did you have a frozen squirrel tail and lots of mirrors on it?

And in answer to the original question the British were one of 17 foreign countries to send troops to support the White army in the 'civil war' that followed the revolutions of 1917. You could argue that the Russians did win WW1 for the British side because the German government had to capitulate because so many of their troops were following the Bolshevik example and legging it off home - probably also helps to explain why everybody was so happy to get stuck into Russia.
