Sad news, a top guy who put a lot of time and effort in to youth football in the town. RIP Tony.

Very sad news. I played in his all-conquering town team of the late '90s, and I always remember what a good bloke he was. We beat Leeds for the first time in years (yours truly scoring the winner) and I have never seen a happier man. He truly loved his football. RIP.

Is this the mush who used to wear the Pods? Sent me home in disgrace from a match for the town for "larking about". This ultimately saw me hit the booze George Best style and instead of playing football I began poking bewers, drinking and knocking about with gypsies. Thoroughly decent bloke. RIP Coach Carter x

I'm pretty sure he was a yakker. He was teaching at a primary in Peterlee when he coached me, but I know that he lived in town. I used to see him in the White House quite regularly.

If same bloke taught me in Blackhall junior school around 74/75 time, if it was him would of been around 65 year old now, used to take around 10 of us to Hartlepool baths in his lunch break, in the back of a clapped out transit van, can you imagine the h&s implications now. Remember the police stopping us near the Seagull once, they gave him a ticking over about the state of his van, nowt said about 10 kids in the back with wet hair. He was a Sunderland fan and once told us he had trials for them as a kid, as a goalie, was a big lad when he taught us, Martin Burleighesque.

Just heard the sad news about Tony today. Tony sat behind me in the Cyril Knowles Stand and what a thoroughly nice guy he was. He always had a friendly word, his knowledge of football was superb and sometimes he even agreed with the Ref.
Block G will miss you Tony.
Our thoughts are with his family and I do hope his lovely wife can come back to football, we'll be there for you.
