Now brokers have started taking money out of people's bank accounts, amounting to a charge for 'looking for loans'. They don't have to find a loan, just to have looked for one, on behalf if the client who is usually very poor and easy to con.

The 'client' has to give bank details, in order to apply for the loan at all.
The bank details are then passed to other firms who also 'look for loans' and then raid the person's bank account in the same way. The person, already probably desperate, wakes up to find nothing at all in their account.

I might not support capital punishment, but I believe in very hard, nasty, forced labour for some people.

I was guilty of this last year.
Applied for a small loan and my account got hit on payday from 5 companies for random amounts.
The only thing to stop it is open a new bank account.

How the fuck is this allowed? What is the point of the FSA?

I agree that people who work in this industry should be shot and their wealth redistributed.

What annoys me is the fact that they are allowed to advertise on TV. It's just preying on peoples vulnerability.
They make it far too easy to get these loans and the interest rates they charge should be made illegal.

I work in Housing Benefits and the amount of people who I've spoken too who say they have been pressured by their landlords to take these loans out or lose their house is disgusting.

Easy way to stop it.

Don't go to these legalised loan sharks.

Easy to say that, but who would go, unless they were desperate? So you must assume they're desperate and need a roof over their heads or to feed their kids.

God knows what it must be like to have that sort of existence. I've had plenty of hard-up times, but never as bad as that.

I honestly believe we are all close to that sort of existence.

Its just luck that stops it happening.

Unless you are called Compo.

Yes. I read recently that many people are 2 pay packets away from disaster.
Many more don't have the pay packet to begin with. I wish I knew what to do about it.

Surely you don't mean to say you don't believe all the good news from the Chancellor and the PM about how well the UK is recovering, and how we are all sooo much better off today??? sctatchinghead

The BBC is becoming like Goebbels or Comical Ali, constantly talking up a recovery which is quite simply NOT happening. I work in Manufacturing, and my customers to a man, both in the UK nad the Eurozone are saying things will get worse before they get better...and this on the back of the worst downturn since the 1930s. banghead

Looking at it from the Construction sector, if you worked at Whitehall or the BBC in London, all you have to do is go to the top floor, and look out around you.

I dont think there has ever been as much construction going on in London at one time, and the number of tower cranes is like a scene from War of the Worlds.

So they see this, and see the recovery.

Whilst the rest of country wallows in debt and hard times.

I would much rather be paid in cash every month. I don't want a bank account. I will go to the Post Office and pay my bills in person. It provides employment for folks at the Post Office for starters

I would go to the shops and buy things with cash

I would pay for my holiday with cash

Fuck the system

yes I know there's probably not that much cash in circulation... and a lot of it is just numbers based on other forms of wealth... but if I had the option (which I do not), then that is what I would want to do

That's where they've got you though, see every penny in and out. When it's not in your pocket they're earning interest on it.

Monthly pay is a charter for people getting into debt anarl, basically somone earning £250 a week can live like someone earning £500 a week for 2 weeks and then you are fooked for the rest of the month.

There doesn't need to be much 'real' cash (of course, none of it's real, as cash is merely a promise to pay in the future) to keep the economy moving. How much there is out there is subject to regulation by the Bank of England; I think that banks only need to have around 10 per cent of their assets in 'real' cash.

And that's the problem with a 'run' on the banks. If we all turned up and asked for our money, they would only have 10 per cent of it. The rest is all imagined money, mere numbers (as Parmo says) floating about a system. It's the biggest confidence trick in the world.

So would you recommend Barcelona for a trip then?

Not sure if I fancy it or not.

Barcelona is a cracking place for a visit.
Lots of stuff to do and food and drink prices are very reasonable away from the tourist traps ie las ramblas
