So let's get this straight, the guy's been in prison from the age of 30 to 78 and people are outraged because life should mean life?

Different song- same tune but different lyrics.

"Arnie Roberts fishy friend,
He cures kippers."

I remember the town end singing a song about Jason White (i think it was him, surname was definitley White) but thankfully I knew better than to join in that one.

Happy days indeed - not because of the HR terrace song but the fact that going back to virtually any era of my 50 years of following Pools would be preferable to the miserable, hopeless situation that we currently find ourselves in. Or perhaps it is just my part-senile mind shutting out memories of the worst of times.

[x] Elaboration of the point required.

Incidentally, being a Hartlepool United supporter is a facet of the board but not an exclusive one. Come to think of it, there is nowhere on the board description that refers to it as a forum for exclusively football topics.

Not outraged, but in this not nice people case it should, or perhaps Ian Brady should be released because he's about the same age and been in nick a long time too

One of the purposes of going to prison is to rehabilitate though and the guy has served a long time but to even compare him to Ian Brady is just moronic.

So it's all about poor old Harry being rehabilitated....who speaks for the dead....?
He killed three people... now that's moronic.

Some of the comments from Senior Plod have been absolutely laughable. One of them was banging on about what sort of message it sends out, well I guess the obvious one is that if you kill a copper you can expect to spend 48 year in jail. 48 year. I'd say most criminals would consider that a hefty stretch.

Another one was banging on about how people needed to understand it wasn't just normal people that had been killed it was policemen, like they were some sort of super species. It's funny but when the boot is on the other foot and it's policemen who kill people they seem to have a bloody good chance of either getting off with it or being allowed to take early retirement and a full pension. What sort of message does that send out eh ?

i didn't come on here for a lecture on communism sadx

No, they are superior human beings. Infact they might be a superior race altogether.

Sorry the point they were making was that because he killed police he needs to be treated differently than if he has just murdered a member of the public. I dunno, would he have done 48 year for killing 2 security guards, or two bank staff ?

I dont know that much about him to be honest, I know he saw a fair bit of active service in the Army, and allegedly killed a good few in Kenya I think, and that after he left the Army he went nuts. He wouldn't be the first one in that situation.

Then again maybe he was nuts before he went in the Army.

At 78 is he a danger to the public ? Like I said I guess thats a decision for the Parole Board not us.

I knew the point you were making. I was making a bad joke.
