Bit of advice required. I'm having problems with the gearbox on my car, Nissan Almera, loud screeching noise attracting attention from everyone as I drive along, OK once I'm up to 4th gear, and no problems actually changing gear, just sounds awful. My local garage said they would fit a secondhand/reconditioned box for me but I would have to get hold of one, and I wouldn't know how to go about getting one without being ripped off.

Go speak to the guy who runs this place. What he doesn't know about transmissions isn't worth knowing!!

Doesn't sound like gear box to me. Never heard a gearbox scretch and you say you get through the gears. Sounds like loose fan belt.

Anyone any idea why my brakes are making a knocking sound at low speed?

Are the clips on the pads clipped into the clips on the caliper?
Anyway, just turn the radio up and it should solve the problem!
