Putting a warning on old cartoons that basically warns people that they contain shitey old racist stereotypes and views is daft. Obviously they do - they are of their time and place. There isn't much point complaining to the people who made them because they're dead so you can either choose to enjoy them despite those bits or watch something else.

Having said that, the maid in Tom and Jerry is a very obvious southern US racist stereotype.

Let's start with the position globally; it's a well used statistic that over a third of the world's population have less than $2 a day to live on. So, if you did nowt all day and just claimed income support and other benefits, in global terms, you'd be pretty well off. Get a job, and you're laughing. On that measure, being a white male looks pretty good, really.

But even if we keep the discussion to the UK, minority ethnic populations fare pretty poorly on nearly measure of social and economic deprivation, whether this be average income, life expectancy, occupation etc. Take my field. It's well known that ethnic minority (particularly black) populations are over-represented at every stage in the criminal justice process. Depending upon how you measure it, for example, you are five times more likely to be stopped and searched by the police if you are black, yet the arrest rate (around 1 arrest for every 10 stops) does not really justify this. Now, the answer is not that ethnic minority lads commit more crime (the data is complex, but self-report studies not do suggest a big difference) or, if they did, it would not be enough to justify the difference. Studies of sentencing, for instance, have shown that after accounting for case features, you are more likely to receive a longer sentence if you are black. So, being white, even a white criminal, is better than being black.

Let's move to the other side of the law; it's a well known fact that black british men are massively underrepresented in law schools in the uk. I've been working in the sector for over a decade and I can count on one hand the number of black british lads I've taught. For those who do choose a career in the law, minority ethnic populations are almost non existent in the top jobs or the top law firms. If you look at the judiciary, especially the senior judiciary, they are almost exclusively white, much more than you would expect for the general population. I could go on, but I suspect the racist isn't listening.

The dog in 'Tom And Jerry' was a single parent I do recall and there seemed to be a lot of Tom's friends who were stray cats (homeless).....they have said very little about them. As for drugs; in the area I live, the drug wars are black on black. It's much teh same in Leicester, Bristol, London, Birmingham, I could go on. Entirely coincidental I'm sure.

Wherever it is the people involved in crime are the lowest rungs of society. In some areas a lot of those people are black. My mates lived it Stratford for a bit and the vast majority of people who live there are black. So it stands to reason the majority of criminals from that area of London, where crime is not uncommon as it's as rough as toast, will be black. It actually has nothing to do with skin colour it's where you sit in the general scheme of things.

For every piece of scum that's black there's a white equivalent. All the people involved in drugs up here are white, because the vast majority of people who live in the roughest, toughest areas are white.

Yet one of the biggest crime/drug links was the smack 'epidemic' in northern cities in the 80s and 90s. Largely a white working class phenomenon. It would be a lie to say that some crimes don't have a racial/cultural profile, in the same way it wouldn't be true to say that one culture was inherently more crimogenic than another.
