Sounds like a good plan to me, take the towns best footballers, and give them an education as well as a chance to make it in the game

Maybe there is a place for scrapping all football club youth teams and only allowing kids to become professional footballers once they have been educated until 18.

Might level the playing field as all will be better developed and will not be millionaires at the age of 19 with nothing to play for.

No the whole point of the link up is you have to go to Dyke House to be in the "ELITE" ..

Unfortunately there'll be no link up with the other schools as everyone else has cut them loose now (and we have the cheek to moan about the premierships attitude to us!)

Excatly. Isn't this just a case of those with some talent being in one location to get educated and be coached at the same time..... the 'elite' tag is neither here nor there...just branding bollocks.

This Dyke House scheme is excellent I will enter the third year of running a similar scheme in 3 of my Kent schools with an organisation called pro football. We have had one boy sign professionally for Gills and Crewe and a third played for England U18. Given the 5 A _ C GCSE criteria with Maths and English an intelligent footballer may come out of the scheme. Clubs like in Wearside league and northern league teams should be picking these boys up and playing them from 17 this has happened in Kent at the likes of Ebbsfleet.

Well done the Head at Dyke House and well done Pools.

Not wanting to be arsey about this but how will this work with the kids not offered a scholarship by pools @16 (and the ones that are) will they all still be offered a place if they meet the criteria..

Also how will yebup feel when a kid from Boro or even Amble takes his lads place at the "elite" academy?.?...
