It's entirely down to lifestyle. If you were a 20 something you'd go for the A3 whereas if you've got three dogs you'll want the estate.

I'd definitely avoid the Toyota and the E250. The Avensis is simply a bag of shit and the E class makes you look 10 years older no matter what age you are. Also consider that you'll be paying BIK tax on the new value of the car. An e250 is kicking on towards 40k.

Audi A4 estate is probably the sexiest estate on the road and the emissions are superb so lower tax. The C class is no great shakes these days. What you haven't mentioned is the mileage of each car.

Personally I'd go for the Audi A4.

I was thinking the audi as it has the lowest emissions how do you work out the BIK tax on them I have how much each is worth:

VW PASSAT EST 2.0D177 SPORT DIESEL cc 1968 CO2 123 £27615.00
TOYOTA AVENSIS ES 2.0D4D T2 DIESEL 1998 140 £20764
MERCEDES BENZ C220D 4DR 2.2D ELEGANCE E125 DIESEL 2143 117 £29610.00
AUDI A3 5DR 2.0D 170 SE DIESEL 1968 123 £22870
AUDI A4 AVANT 2.0D B/EDTN DIESEL 1968 124 £32120
MERCEDES BENZ E250D 4DR 2.2 AVANTGARDE E125 AUTO DIESEL 2143 132 £36425

I know, its odd for me to say something like that.

But seriously.

Fuck the environment.

Its a big tax saving for you.

Never have had a company car before I seen on the link Mr I put on that the difference between the a4 (20% 1290 and 40% 2580) and the E class (20% 1851 and 40% 3701) They are both saloon cars and indeed all are on list apart from Avensis and Passat. With regard to the tax I am assuming I pay this monthly is this correct?

Cheers for that. So I assume I pay this monthly then?

I recon for my needs just a boot for a pushchair the A4 would be best for me and cheaper. And as ADG says I am a midget so i could hold a tea party in either.

The tax man takes it automatically.

Be careful that they Do though straight away......otherwise you will find a massive underpayment when they catch up with you.

As far as I can remember, it's the amount they reduce your tax allowance by unless the rules have changed, so you pay tax/ERS on more of your salary. It's still a massive saving on running a car though if you work it correctly.

I have a Passat and its shite rakxe

Lovely to drive when its not getting fixed just been one thing after another with mine, the dashboard is constantly lit up with warning lights. The latest thing to go wrong is the electronic handbrake the caliper jammed on which ive read and is a massive common problem and in the good old US of A they have recalled them all and fixed the issue free of charge but VW in the uk wont.

I had to leave my car and then it freed itself but there is, well was a constant bleeping noise until i pulled the fuses out. So would i recommend a Passat would i fook

What kind of driving will you be doing?

Is the car essential or optional, if they will give an allowance and you're not doing loads of miles it could be better to do your own thing. A couple of mates have and one of them is running a new Golf R as his company car another has had a Megane for 8 years even though his company car allowance has risen every year.

Odd that, I had three Passats and apart from an HT lead problem with one of them, they were ace, both diesels and petrols.

Cars are cars, some people have trouble with certain brands, some people love them. There's that many moving parts it's pot luck really. I drive an Italian car and (touches wood) I've had no trouble with it however I have a mate who had an Audi A4 and he spent thousands getting it sorted.

if I didn't have to have a car,I most certainly would not own one

I'd love to take the train/bus,but I'd get to work about 2 hours after I was supposed to start

Fucking outrageous - privatisation of public transport good for the people, my arse.

Audi Avant isn't, has never been, and never will be a 4 door saloon car. So best check it out unless you're happy for an estate car ( which would be better anyway if you have a kid due).

Just to clarify this;

It's not salary plus the value of the car. It's the salary plus the value of benefits including car BIK.

One other thing. Make damn sure that you opt out of personal fuel allowance. That pretty much doubles your car tax. (You won't really pay for fuel, just don't take the piss)

Thanks for that Mr I. They indicated to me that I get a fuel allowance card and that I have to submit my mileage every week after that I pay 30p a mile or something like that
