The libertines, love or loathe?

I loved, it reminds me of going over town with friends, getting wrecked, failing to pull girls n just being young.

I imagine the oldies would hate n anyone about 27-34 now would probs remember n love (compo n mampi etc)

Is there a don't love them but don't mind listening and wish Docherty wasn't such a mess option?

I was at that too chip, I think the tickets where about a Tenner, he strutted over to the dj booth about 2 hours late n played about 2 CDs for 10 minutes then went back to his dressing room to probably take drugs and get lashed.

Still a canny night in jax though as they all where for about 3 years.

I'm with alienlife on this one. Personally they were decent, but nothing to write home about. My recollections of the band were more of what they did off the stage than on. Clever PR, I doubt, just car crash screw ups I suppose.

Back to the article, written by the fans. What are the odds of each contributor picking a different favourite song? Nice bit of advertising me thinks. Or am I in full conspiracy theory mode today.

I'm an old fart on your age range and I loved up the bracket. Didn't see them live, mind.

I wasn't massively into them at the start, but grew to love them, Pete D is a tortured genius. Love the energy of some of their faster songs.

I am with Pubey on this one I loved the libertines. I have seen Barat and Doherty in there other bands Dirty Pretty things and Babyshambles the first time I saw Dirty Pretty things at that festival in Newcastle which was only on for one year they where brilliant. Saw Babyshambles at Leeds on year and they wernt that great however saw them this year in Exeter and they where very good as I like the style of their current album and Pete suprisingly wasnt out of it.

I love The Libertines; I wasn't old enough to be big on them at the time of their studio work but I think Pete Doherty is a genius and the music is incredible fun. Not classic, I'd give both albums 8/10 but I think they're remembered because they were the figurehead of the British indie scene and were the UK equivalent of The Strokes, they were highly significant because the next 5 years of British guitar music was built around their success.

Also Babyshambles are brilliant live and the energy is superb at their gigs

They were OK but patchy live. The thing that put me off them was that they were cockerney press darlings and I don't like over-hype. That's just the sycophants who report on them of course but it just puts me off.

Me and my mate were discussing the Libertines the other day, and between us neither could hum or whistle any of their tunes. Completely unmemorable. If the media weren't all over the Kate Moss/smack thing I doubt most people would have heard of them.

Twat is putting it nicely, comes across a typical lead singer bell end. I remember when the lead singer from Glasvegas was on Never Mind the Buzzcocks wearing sunglasses with a cuntish arrogance about him...

Christian Burgess is a massive Scraping Foetus Off The Wheel fan and Sam Collins has Marc Almond's face tatooed on his left buttock. FACT!
