If Pools win their last 2 games, we could end up around 11th or 12th.

In 15-20 years time people there yesterday will be able to tell the younguns of the day how nerve wracking it was, and how we saved our league status with 20 minutes to go...etc etc.

And the younguns will look on InTheMadCrowd, and say, fuck off you daft owld bastads.

We finished 12th that season.

We werent even close to relegation.

clappp clappp clappp

VERY proud to be a Poolie today. Time to look forward to a summer of relief, and relentless mockery of the former Leaguer inadequates rubbing their hands on here yesterday. rolf

We can finish above Plymouth... This division has been shit this season, with a bit of better luck with injuries etc. who knows where we could have ended up.

See, it wasn't yesterday's match that kept us up, no more than it was the Oldham match last season that sent us down.
We went down because we played half a season of inacceptably bad football.
We stayed up because we played half a season of very acceptable football.

But at least we got a thrill we wouldn't have had if we'd wrapped it up a couple of games earlier.

The daft thing is it was probably worth a couple of weeks of worry to experience that yesterday, days like that and going as mental as that when you score is what being a football fan is all about.

Is it fook.

Give me midtable obscurity over that any day.

The only thing you can say is that the game broke the usual mode, of us failing on the big occasion.

I dont care how good it was at the end, I hate days like that.

And I still think its embarrassing that we have fallen so far.

I dont disagree with that.

But you sort of make it sound that the previous shit is ok as long as we escape with a result like yesterday.

What I will say though is this:

The last time we had a game like that was Scarborough 1999. Look what happened after that. Maybe yesterday will make IOR have a rethink?

We where this good every season after our return to division 1 surviving by the skin of our teeth. We need some vision for next season to inspire the team going forward and saying that this years results are acceptable is not going to do that.

In reality yesterday's situation was nothing like that Scraborough game, which was shit or bust. We probably could have lost the last three and still stayed up the way results went.

Yes but escaping by the skin of our teeth in League one, is damned sight better than escaping by the skin our teeth in league two.

Give the first option every time.

Maybe when we were all complaining two seasons ago we should have taken what we had.

It will nevertheless, whatever happens now, be our lowest finish since that Scarborough season.

15 years eh?

13 years after formation - election to the league

47 years later and 40 seasons later (60 years after being formed) Pools won their first ever football league promotion

fuck me I'm glad I've seen the last 40 years or so instead of the first 40 odd!!!

My grandad watched most of our matches during the first sixty years and his theory was that we had a few teams that would have gone up from a division 4 to a division 3 but didn't quite manage to go from third division north to division 2. Makes sense when you think about it, the regionalised divisions meant we were competing with what would now be the northern/midlands teams from leagues one and two - getting that single promotion spot wasn't easy.

Is this relevant?

Because we were shite before we were good, makes it ok to be shite again?

And the bit wasnt a blip. Its a whole generation that have never seen us this shite.

Several generations grew up in the belief that they would be better off than their parents' generation had been. Now all they have to look forward to is struggling to pay the bills before a short poverty stricken retirement followed by death in badly funded hospital. Progress isn't always sustained in society or football.

No, but don't be surprised that we are. You should be more surprised when we're not.

Not having that.

Its the old typical Hartlepool attitude.......................................almost celebrating our shittiness.

I still think there are some that preferred the old days

Did you get an A+ in embroidery at school? No-one's celebrating being shite, it's just a fact of life that except for four seasons, we were, in terms of this generation you're on about.
