Training with the team and Hughes wants to sign him, "deep lying midfielder" But reckons need to get a few out before... Wouldn't surpise me if Walton goes on loan somewhere.

I love the way the Fail call every player who pools are on the verge of signing a "star" or a "starlet".

At least our gaffer has actually been able to see the lad play. Well done Pools, you are learning!

Was talking to him last night actually about this. Always wondered if Pools would ever go after him with him being from the town and not getting a look in at Boro. Nice to see we're going after a midfielder hope we get him in.

I assume it's Gary Dolan's lad? Mind you, hope he takes after his Mum cos his Dad was not the quickest. Played for Cuthies and used to sit in the hole; rarely got over the half way line - although he is areally nice guy.

Has anybody got any source on this move to Yeovil as I can find absolutely nothing online. As far as I'm concerned he will still sign for us.

Yeah because a completely untried 19 year old defensive midfielder was going to make all the difference. Who cares if he isn't coming?

Pathetic in what way? 2 people are acting like we've missed out on the next Beckham. Nobody knows how good he is and I very much doubt that he alone would have made much difference

I honestly rate your post as SSOOO pathetic that it genuinely doesn't warrant a full response. Every person reading this board can see why Dolan opting not to come speaks volumes about the situation we're in. Well, except for you obviously.

Christ, I'm arguing with a 5 year old.

1. Dolan hasn't actually turned us down, officially at least.
2. Surely we only want to bring someone in who is up for the fight? We have too many who clearly aren't, so what use is another?

What use is the captain of boro's under 21's (at 19 by the way)? What use is a lad who's left footed who can play left back, centre back or in front of the back four? What use is a lad who but for an injury might even be in their first team squad by now? What use is a lad born in the town, who went to school in the town, who understands PROPERLY what the club means to some people? What use is a lad who people I know have watched week in week out for years, and rate as the best passing footballer to come out of this town for a long long time, to a team struggling to string two passes together? What use is a lad who's decent, down to earth, humble, who doesn't give it the big 'i am' despite being on a healthy contract for a young lad? FFS, did you see the goal he scored against Billingham this summer?

What use is he? You're right he hasn't turned us down yet, but it's certainly looking that way. To be honest, i agree with what someone said earlier, as much as i'd like him to play for us, it's probably better for the lad, at this stage of his career, not to have clowns like you shouting at him every weekend.

Clowns like me shouting at him? Wtf? Now you're just making shit up to try and dig yourself out of a hole.

If he doesn't want to come here (I wouldn't blame him in the slightest), then fine. My point was (as you so obviously missed it), that we have too many players who aren't up for the fight. If he chooses to go to the other end of the country rather than to the club he supports, then that suggests he isn't up for the fight either. If that IS the case then why would he be a big loss?

ME trying to dig myself out of a hole? READ your comment that started this off. It was pathetic, un necessary and totally missed the point about why Matty not coming is an issue. Him not coming (if he opts not to) doesn't suggest anything at all about him not being up for the fight. It suggests to me that his people have said 'stay away from that lot kidda'. Your comment was stupid.

The point being that its up to interpretation, you're seeing it one way, I'm seeing it another. Both are possibilities, neither can be proven unless the lad were to come out and say why (if he did go elsewhere).

If you chose to interpret my original comment in the wrong way without clarification, then that's your problem, not mine.

Whatever, if you can't see why him not coming (if he doesn't) is an issue, as i say, that's up to you. Everyone else can.
Let's just leave it there and see what happens.

Surely the fact that we are bottom of the league and shite means our best hope of avoiding utter and another season of watching elderly dross suck us out of L2 is to sign untried but well thought of local youngsters?

I'd rather see Pools sack 90% of the squad and sign 20 untried 19 year olds than watch overpaid wankers go through the motions and I'm sure I'm not alone.

id rather see it too, on the basis that the 19 year old we bring in are up for the fight. I've seen plenty of younguns who just aren't. That youngun we had from Newcastle, Donaldson or summat, very highly rated, England schoolboy throughout all the age ranges.....yet was exactly what we wouldn't want at this point in time.

where are the Brian Honours of this world? It seems like they have ceased to exist!!!
That lad played for nowt at the arse end of one season, just for the chance to earn himself a pro contract the following season
He knew he was good enough, Billy Horner knew it, there just wasn't the money to pay him until the close season
He pulled his puddings out every season after that because he knew he had to... to earn his next contract

What is wrong with players today is... they earn so much money, that the financial pressure has been immediately taken off them after just 2 or 3 years in the game

This is why football has to remodel its finances, or else implode financially - otherwise it will never get back to being an honest sport again . Even at the 65% salary cap, the players at Hartlepool are getting far too much money

True.

I doubt many young lads come into L1 from top clubs and revel in the physical side of the game at this level, at least a young midfielder should need less protection and Boro fans were saying Dolan has bulked up recently.

Donaldson was too wrapped up in his own hype, ideally we want lads who show the lack of fear James showed when he was first thrown in, coupled with a bit of strength.

surely the financial implosion is exactly what is needed? Its never going to get back to what it was while there is so much money being bandied around.

It would be nice to think he was another Michael Brown and jump at the chance to bust a gut for his home town club. If hes considering going to the other end of the country well good luck to him but he cant be that focused on helping us in our hour of need then hes not what we need.

It would be nice to think he was another Michael Brown and jump at the chance to bust a gut for his home town club. If hes considering going to the other end of the country well good luck to him but he cant be that focused on helping us in our hour of need then hes not what we need.

The way that you're blabbering would make one think that he had an obligation to join the club. If you were in his shoes, would you want to join a team that was rooted to the bottom of the table with a shocking record of developing youngsters? Every footballer is selfish and ultimately their career is most important. You cannot argue with that, otherwise your beloved Michael Brown would still be playing for us. I suppose by your logic that because Brown left he was no longer focused on helping the club to progress...

Our beloved Michael Brown was only on loan im afraid and returned to his own club at the end of the season after making a great contribution to keeping us in the League. This must have been before your time.

And Hughes told SportMail today: “I hear he’s back home now – well he might just find a big, ugly Scotsman standing outside his front door with a signing-on form".

I reckon given it another couple of months and it'll be Hughes who needs the signing on form...
