Does anyone on here play indoor footy? My samba' s are shot to bits and i'm not sure whether to get the same again or try different trainers. I would be most interested to hear from someone who has played to a high standard obviously.

Usually in sports hall ie hard floor rather than astroturf.

That's all I've ever used for indoor footy so I guess I don't know of a better alternative. I had a look about today for an alternative but none looked right. Any alternatives gratefully received.

It might be an idea to try some on, take a footy along and they might let you do some keepy ups in the shop.

I don't play at anything like a reasonable level, but I've always found Umbro last for ages.

I use running trainers when playing football indoor, good grip and very comfortable.

They wont really make you play any better, but at least they will last you a while, and improve your grip. Do not ask for a pair of indoor football boots, they will think you are criminally insane.

I had a look today at some but i'm not convinced they would grip properly on wooden floors like at the mill house. The little "studs" on the astroturf boots were almost as hard as football boot studs.

They look great chip but they are aimed at astroturf and i'm looking for ones for harder floors. It's rare I play on astroturf. Usually the headland centre or millhouse.

There seems to be a fair few types to choose from online. I'm going to have a find somewhere to try them on locally. I'm surprised how many football boots are such gaudy tarty colours these days.

I play barefoot. I like to really feel close to the surface.

FFS they are for playing on hard surfaces, which means they wont start falling apart after a couple of years . Ive played at the Millhouse, Headland, Brinky, Throston, Belle Vue, etc in mine, as well as on Astro and grass in the summer, and they are as good a pair of boots in terms of value for money as Ive ever had. At one stage I was playing in them 3-4 times a week.

If you like Sambas just get another pair, like Horden says,no matter what you buy it wont make you play any better.

If you have played in the mill house you will know how skiddy the floor is. It's completely different to the headland for example where it feels like you are playing in treacle. I would have assumed (perhaps wrongly) that those astroturf boots with the stud type soles would struggle for grip on a floor like the mill house . I figured it is a compromise between grip and how hard wearing the sole is. The studs will obviously grip quite well on astroturf and they will last. Maybe I will need to try a pair but if I buy a pair and don't like them it's unlikely I will get any use for them as I won't be wearing them around town. I would prefer my rigger boots for that. ;)

I play about 4 times a week twice at West View, Brierton and the domes plus some 5 a side tournaments. For West View i use a pair of umbro astro turf type trainers but for the hard floor i basically just use my old normal trainers with some cushioned insoles to help absorb the shock.
Had a pair of Stan Smiths that lasted for ages and were great for indoor footy.
If you are worried about slipping over all the time maybe you just have shit balance.

As you get older you will realise why they make footwear for hard surface football, basketball, running etc.

Playing the odd game of 5 a side is one thing but if you play regularly you need a sole that will cushion some of the impact so that your joints aren't taking all of it.

Playing 3 hours 5 a side every week in Sambas will eventually result in damage to the joints , probably in the knee area.

I know from speaking a a physio in the town that this is true. Especially if you play at millhouse as the floor has absolutely no give in it. The old man struggles now and it is likely down to years of playing in there. I assume that's why many end up wearing normal trainers in there. I read something which said that the problem with having thick soles when playing 5 a side Is that it increases the chance of ankle injuries. Not sure if this is true.

Lol my balance is fine. I don't slip over in Sambas but I just fancied a change. I don't really want any poncy rainbow coloured ones so the ones chip suggested look canny but not sure if they would grip at all in the millhouse.

Like i said indoors i'd personally only use normal flat soled trainers with an insole and have never had any problem with grip.
You definitely need some sort of shock absorbtion/protection if you are playing a fair bit on hard surface either your knees will end up shot or plantar faschiatis will kick in.

Plantar fasciitis is a horrible injury, had it myself a few years ago, 18 months with prescription insoles sorted it though.

Isn't plantar fascisiitis caused by joining the EDL or knocking about with Paolo Di Canio? Nothing to do with trainers.

I was indeed chip, years of playing in sambas have also taken a toll on my knees too, although the few extra clem I carry won't help either, took up jogging last year and my knees cant take 2 consecutive days at the minute.

Cheers for all the advice.

I ended up getting these. I got half a size up so that I can put decent insoles in. £30.
