I feel sorry for Moyes, Man U were shit last season and won the league because City imploded, Fergie got out at the right time.

It's shocking that he's there at every game lurking in the background like the grim reaper.

Every time they are behind (fairly often) the camera pans to old Whisky Nose.

What are the odds in Moyes getting the boot and him coming to save the day?

Wilf McGuiness was the Moyes that time wasn't he? I've seen him do after dinner speaking he started with "I was manager of Manchester United for four seasons Summer, Autumn..." You know the rest!

Just on my way back from the game (not part of the Hartlepool reds).. Man Utd are shocking, Tom Cleverly is not even a footballer, he is so bad.

Sunderland were equally poor the overall standard of the game was not of a high quality. I'd hate to ever find out what Lee Cattermole has earned from football it would seriously piss me off. Shocking player.

I tweeted this earlier though....

"@iamjoemac: On my way to watch a nice little 2-1 win for Sunderland at the Stadium of Light #20/1"

Which made the night much more enjoyable...

The Van Persie signing was a perfect example of Ferguson being a selfish 'lovely lovely person', 30 million for an injury prone player with no sell on value, but he got a season out of him and fucked off

Mind you the fact Moyes is willing to spunk 17 million on Baines shows he is hardly the best judge

Moyes needs to build his own team and that will take time.

The players treated Fergie like a father figure. Well he's gone now and the stepdad's moved in. Never gonna get the same respect from the players.

I can't believe he moaned about that Penalty, had the challenge been Cattermole on one of his under achievers then he'd have been over the moon and Cattermole would have been sent off.

If he starts blaming anyone but himself and his players the man wants shooting. Is it a coincidence Everton have got better than they have been for years without him?

Saw the penalty incident on the news and I thought Johnson dived but Man Utd have had their fair share of dodgy penalties so what goes around comes around. I can't feel sorry for any premiership manager due to the money they get, even when they are deemed no good they walk away with compensation packages that would set me up ta very much.
I wonder if Moyes will get the same leeway as Fergie got at the start of his Man Utd career, maybe not.
All this cheating and diving puts me off watching the game to be honest. There seems to be more and more of it but no indication that the authorities have the heart to tackle it, apart from spouting a lot of hot air.
I also think the standard of refereeing/running the line is deteriorating at a rate of knots but that's no surprise when Lee Mason and Kevin Friend have managed to squirm their way to the top, although the ever increasing lack of sportsmanship doesn't help them any.
Ah well there's plenty more to do than watch over paid cheats and sub standard officials.

The standard of refereeing has not got worse. Its always been the same.

Its just that every bad decision is now analysed with 3 million cameras at every game.

Manure have had way more outrageous decisions go their way over the years than what has, maybe, gone against them recently.

Most clubs have many more reasons to complain about the decisions manure have got over the years than manure will ever have.

The worst of which being the goal that was never given against Spurs.

The ref and lino should have been arrested for that one.

its the managers last resort isnt it, if everything else has been blamed, blame the ref.

The penalty incident took about 10 seconds out of a 90 minute game, he had 89 minutes n 50 seconds to make sure that penalty incident didnt matter by scoring more than sunderland.

Bullshit. How can the ref know that the ball had crossed the line from the position he was in. The lino would have been about 10 yards into the man u half and wouldn't have been able to be certain either.

I think the penalty is one that is given 8 times out of 10 and if it was Man United at Old Trafford 10 out of 10 and Moyes would go mad if it wasn't. At full speed it looked a stonewaller Johnson was driving into the box at full pelt Cleverley's challenge was scruffy and a bit daft, he went with the wrong leg for a start plus his body language showed the tell take sign of guilt as soon as Johnson went down holding up both hands.

It was only when it was slowed down the contact looked minimal but at that pace it doesn't take a lot to send someone off balance I certainly don't think he dived. The ref doesn't have the benefit if slow motion but contact was made.

Stop moaning and play better.

They dont have the financial clout to compete with Man City and Chelsea, and they dont have a gifted manager like Wenger. Failing to qualify for the Champions League ( hopefully ) will put them even further behind the 8 ball.

They have borrowed heavily under Fergie and the club is saddled with debt, so no doubt they will try and force some new Fair Play ruling to make everyone come down to their level, or the Yanks will bail out.

I remember when I was working at Garlands a few years back and saying to all the odious plastics in the canteen that in 5 years time Man United will exist in the shadows of Man City and I got laughed it.

It didnt even take that long.

Without new owners they are going nowhere, and no manager on earth is gonna change that. Couldn't be happier, I even hope Sunderland beat them in the second leg.

I dislike United like any other Poolie but I have to disagree with some of this.

The Glazers bought United around 2005 for £1470m and at one point had debt of over £700m. At this point 80% of their profit was used to pay interest, absolutely crippling. This debt has constantly reduced since then and is now around £300m level. In the meantime the Glazers have increased Uniteds revenues massively, kept costs under control and their profitability is now much greater. In 2014 their projected interest cost will be just 10% of their profit. That's a massive turn around.

In a couple of years (should they choose to do so) the debt will be all but gone and they will have the financial clout to blow City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal out of the water (Uniteds commercial income equates to that of Chelsea and Arsenal combined). City and Chelsea have only been able to spend as big as they have because of their owners. United will be able to do it within the fair play rules.

The retirement of Fergie in financial value must be in the hundreds of millions. In short I believe United will have to spend hundreds of millions, much like Chelsea and City to be a title contender again. I've heard the figure 200m mooted in the press which will be available to Moyes over the next 18 months, but thats just speculation.

The timing of Fergies retirement will not have been coincidence, it will have been put to him that if he were to retire any earlier it could be at risk of financial meltdown for United and their future as one of the biggest clubs in the world at risk.

Think back to 80% of profit going on interest for loans. No Champions League would result in making a loss, no transfer funds for the purchase of RVP which won them last years title etc. Downward spiral. However current situation of 10% profit spent on interest, massive profits, massive transfer funds for the current new Manager.

Sad to say but the Glazers have played a blinder.

I think that was Moyes point, they had a very similar incident against Spurs at Old Trafford, and Janusaj was booked for diving!

Apart from that your absolutely spot on.

Who are "United".....?? I fucking DESPISE that term in reference to Manchester United. Its as if all the other "Uniteds" are mere nothings. You wouldnt refer to "The" when talking about The Clash, even though they are vastly superior to ALL other bands starting with "The", especially "The" Jam etc, so why on fucks earth do people refer to them as UNITED?

I use the word "United" on it's own regularly and have done for over sixty years and my father and grandfather did the same, which is where I got it from. The United I refer to is of course Hartlepool (s) United. We have always been Pools or United to me and always will. I refer to the team that plays at Old Trafford as Man Utd and, like you Phil, get annoyed at the incorrect use of the word. I do accept that Man Utd fans talking amongst themselves are entitled to refer to their team as United, but I never would unless the conversation had already established that the team being referred to was the Old Trafford outfit.

You know that the great wall of china can be seen from space?

Well that ball was further over the line than the length of the great wall.

FACT.

That is one thing that boils my piss. They were on the telly sometime last season playing West Ham, it was on ITV, and every pundit in the studio were saying United this, United that, I don't think that it occurred to them that there were 2 Uniteds playing

Bullshit. How can the ref know that the ball had crossed the line from the position he was in. The lino would have been about 10 yards into the man u half and wouldn't have been able to be certain either.

Stupid ignorant Manc fool.

You know that the great wall of china can be seen from space?

Well that ball was further over the line than the length of the great wall.

FACT.

Whoa there, re-read what I actually wrote, then get back to me when your ready for a sensible discussion. I won't hold my breath

Right. So even though the ball was so far over the line it was in another county, you claim the ref who was at worst 60 yards away couldnt see it? Or be certain it had crossed the line?

Only a manure loving ignoramus imbecile would try and claim the moral high ground of sensible debate on that one.

And of course had it happened at the other end? Of course, two goals would have been awarded.

What with that and Fergie time, its great that years of injustice are being righted.

ignoramus imbecile

I love you really.

the worst thing is, that ball was still moving when that still was taken as the keeper then scooped the ball out.

It must have been a full metre over the line.

But the ref couldnt be sure.

Remember the rules though the WHOLE ball must cross the line.

Play on.
