Gove has this weird conviction that if you pop up in a newspaper every now again and contradict experts, without any ground at all, people will want to listen to you.

He's funny isn't he? Myself, I always look forward to all his latest opinions.

He is a complete and utter waste of oxygen. If he was an American we'd all be taking the piss out of him for coming out with such twatty things over and over.

What I meant was all of the press, including the Tory-supporting ones who don't question his idiocy.

Gove's real role in government is to be so barking mad that it makes Cameron look normal and give the impression that he holds the centre ground - a bit like Ed Milliband was supposed make David Milliband look normal but Labour elected the wrong one

The man is a 'lovely lovely person'.

Such a 'lovely lovely person' he makes Cameron, Clegg and Osbourne seem like thoroughly decent chaps.

Its shite that your vote now doesn't win you a choice but simply a different kind of useless out of touch middle class ring piece.

Then why doesn't someone encourage Stu Drummond to stand as an Independant and at least take the party domination out of Hartlepool?

The party system is what's fooking everyone.

The man is an upper class fool. Wonder if he is aware of the longest running strike in British history? 1914 was the year 66 children went 'on strike' in Norfolk following the sacking of their teacher (Mr Higdon) by the local rector. The parents set up a 'strike school' for their kids and made....yep....Mr Higdon the headteacher. Nice to know the children could actually take radical action to halt outsiders vetting their education!

The Bunker is no place for politics, but the word ''lovely lovely person'' was invented for Gove.

...and Sussex rolf

Perhaps luckily, I had no idea who this Martin Grove guy was before now.

So Germany was to blame for sending the whole of Britain's 18-25 year old population to a probable death in a war that they were conned into thinking as being theirs and which no modern government, even with today's levels of government ineptitude, would have given five minutes' thought to before rejecting the whole idea out of hand as some kind of sadistic prank?

Fair enough. Good point. I won't even ask what party he's in since that's even less relevant than the reasons behind an early 20th century record body-count power struggle.

I bet Mr Gove would probably say that Wilfred Owen had no idea what he was talking about.......

Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.
Gas! Gas! Quick, boys! – An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling,
And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime . . .
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.
In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.
If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie; Dulce et Decorum est
Pro patria mori.

I'd like Mr Glove to tell us what in his opinion did fighting them bastad Germans and marginally winning at an obscene cost do to improve the lives of Britons, apart from earning us the right to do it all over again 20 years down the line.

The sorrows, the suffering, the glory, the pain
The killing and dying was all done in vain.
For young Willie McBride it all happened again,
And again, and again, and again, and a-fucking-gain.

Gove would probably claim it was made up by Ben Elton for Blackadder IV ..
Patriotism .the last refuge of the Scoundrel..
Makes you wonder about those poor souls in Syria went through ..

As Monty says the Human Race in general has learnt the root sum of nothing over the last 100 years...
