has discussing their back to darlow campaign with me, just now.

He hasnt contributed, and says its a waste of money.

We had a look at the darlow board. It seems they are now arguing amongst themselves as to what the money is actually for.

It seems its actually to try and pay off current debts, which will be even higher by the time the fund reaches its target. I say reach its target loosely, as they havent even got to £3k yet.

He was genuinely gutted by whats happened but doesnt see a future.

But reading the thread about standing orders, there are some deluded dumb fucks over there.

The problem they seem to have (IMO obviously) isn't the fans but the people who are controlling the CIC who seem to have their own agenda which isn't one that has a firm business plan.

Their plan seems to be back to league football in Darlington ASAP, without any idea of the costs. The plan should be stabilise the team as a strong non league side in Darlington, get the town on side, become part of the community again, then slowly begin climbing the leagues.

A 15-20 year time scale as a return to League two might be hard to take for their egos and their emotions but each level is harder and more expensive and they need to run before they can walk.

I'd have given up if I were a Darlo fan unless the idiots in charge of the finances stop sniffing glue.

What will happen when they go pop again? Will they reappear in the Northern league?

they wont reappear again.

They have no home now, so Bishop Auckland wouldnt accommodate them again, especially if they were owed money. Which they would be.

The whole thing is just an accident waiting to happen. They have no idea how to run efficiently.

They were given a chance in the Northern League and immediately snapped up the best local players that they couldnt afford.

They did that straight away. And immediately put themselves back in debt. It never crossed their tiny minds that it was odd for a new team to join a league and just win it straight away. They thought it was their right.

They planted a new seed, but acted like it was a fully grown tree.

Really this "move back to Darlo" campaign is just another "save the club" one in disguise, but they need to give it another name as people wont dip their hand in their pockets for the third time. Without this money they will go pop either the end of this season or next irrespective of what non-league division they are in. Therefore without clearing the debt with this "back to darlo" money they will never get back to Darlo and go belly up, or they will just incur more debt on the money they owe.

They are really clueless if they believe they will either get back to darlo in 2-3 years or even get back in the league in 10 years. They need to pay the debt off asap however using this crap about getting back to darlo is the only way it will wash with the few people in the town that care about them as it happened too many times.

They can bang on about us going pop but how many collections have Pools supporters had to do in the last 15 years to keep the club afloat?

Despite my piss taking I'd like to see them have a go, but I suspect (as is often the case) those with the inclination to become involved in the running of the club are the ones who wouldn't get the job if someone who knew how to run a business/football club was interviewing them and putting up the money.

I remembered something MadJohn wrote in the match programme and did a quick search.

Quote:
The First World War had a big impact on Darlington and the club ran into money problems. Another Darlington team, the Forge Albion, took them over, and the new chairman, Mr J.B Haw, paid off the debts and also built the east stand at Feethams.

It seems the Darlington 1883 claiming to be the original club from 1883 is a bit like Trigger claiming he used the same brush since he started as a road sweeper (it only had 17 new heads and 14 new handles).

They are the same club since 1883 except when they went bust in 1915 and we're taken over by Darlington Forge Albion and except when they went bust in 2012 and reformed again.

There on about Dan Burn and potentially getting £75k if he plays on saturday for Fulham, but this post got my attention and didnt realise how much debt they had on, very suprising:

180k as of June 2013 and planned debt as of June 2014 is 120k according the documents that were in place for the share/equity schemes.

Although according to our accounts 30th June 2013 liabilities were £213,101. Although accounts can be shown in many ways to make things look how you want.

So they have fucked local businesses twice in the last few years, claim they are the same club, and happy to trouser any sell on money from the sale of players on their books when they screwed local businesses without paying anything back

But they're being sold a dream, one they desperately want to believe.

A bit like flogging scratch cards to those on the dole, its a shiny beacon of hope. It doesn't take a genius to work out they're doing it wrong but won't learn from the mistakes of others or even their own.

Fundraising from fans isn't a business plan if you have to do it more than once.

They should just register as a charity.

Let's be honest if they can't be self sustainable at the low level they are now on 1,000 gates they never actually will be. For the £50,000 they need to raise this year they will need it again at this time next year, where does it actually end? Anyone giving away savings or even disposable income to this bottomless pit wants sectioning or have a serious think about some actual worthy causes they could donate money to.

Thats the rub though. Their 1000 fans demand success, as they are playing at a level way below their fan base.

So they have to have the best(most expensive) players otherwise they would lose a proportion of the 1000.

So right from the start they put themselves back into debt.

And every time they move up the ladder the expenses and costs go up. So its a never ending cycle of increased costs and demands.

They couldnt accept their new club, and new life at that level and will pay for it with extinction.

Scarborough are due to have their new ground finally built next year. They have been patient and operating at the same level for a few years. When they get into their new facility and they can increase their revenues they can climb the leagues accordingly, and sensibly
