...I fuppin hate them me. These are the sort of weekends which evoke memories of F.A. Cup trips to Man City, Ipswich, Crewe, Barnsley etc. when younger. Losing your voice through singing, and bumping into old enemies in motorway service stations on cold, bleak Saturdays.

We seemed to do better in this competition when we were a bottom four Division 4 side................. Sort it out Pools (or Poole if your a Bury fan stpid ). banghead

When faced with blank saturdays I like to indulge myself in my favourite pastime, which is trying to pack myself into a small suitcase..
I can hardly contain myself
( I can remember most of them grand days out...we did seem to do better in the cup when we were total crap in the league though)

League one or the occasional game against a big clubs 2nd team ...
I know which I prefer!

Ipswich games stands out, they were top of the championship at the time and needed a very late equalizer at their place to get the replay

I thought he was on about when we played Bobby Robsons Ipswich and lost 4-1. Brilliant turnout that day and we were playing against a top Ipswich team full of Internationals. 4-1 didn't disgrace us, we gave them a really quality game.

Going back to '78 for that one, was a good game like, and as you say despite the scoreline we gave them a game. They went on to win the Cup if I remember, under Bobby Robson.

That day out in 78 was brilliant and Ipswich did go on to win the cup, beating arsenal 1-0.
After our game against Ipswich Bobby Robson was raving about our support. If I had 25000 supporters like that, we would win everything he said. Didn't you Bobby? ( looking at the signed portrait of Sir Bobby that hangs proudly in my living room) Bobby has just nodded his approval.
Stayed overnight in the White Hart hotel ( I think that name is right) in the market place.
Blagged our way into a nightclub, telling the management that I was Eric McMordie. All was well until Kevin Beattie ( Ipswich and England ) walked in and was brought to our table. That's not McMordie he said. It was all taken in good spirit and we had a great night. Smashing guy Beattie and he was full of praise for our team and especially our supporters. Magic !!!! clappp

I was speaking of the '78' game. They were playing in Europe in those days. Mr.Horden will tell you we got to Portman Road late, after taking a wrong turn on the way down, and blagged our way into the official car park courtesy of a helpful steward. Our support that day was tremendous (as it always has been in just about every Cup away game I've been to), you'd have thought we were the home team that day.

I remember Larry Lloyd, the then Wigan gaffer, paying us (supporters) the same compliment after a game at their place in the Cup also mid 80's.

We took two football specials with 600 on each. I was 17 at the time and was with all my mates who had either left school or
had moved on to the sixth form. Class day. Both trains incidentally went from the platform over the bridge at hartlepool
station. It hasn't been used for donkeys years.

Didn't Osbourne (Roger?) score the winner that day at Wembley and never play again?

I don't think anyone has bad word for Bobby Robson, except the vicious British press who should hang themselves in shame. His biography is tear jerking in many places.

Aye Osbourne scored the goal but I don't know if it was his last game.

Saw the mirror lying around in a pub yesterday and looked in it just to see how bad it was, fook me it was worse than I expected, full of total shi*te, not a mention of the official secrets disclosure stating that the miners were lied too  Yet every morning I see sad pathetic old blokes going to the papershop at 8am to buy this shi*e.

My uncle only realised something was wrong when we got behind a coach of Blackburn fans going to Orient. We were so late Cambridge United were on the pitch warming up, ready for a div 3 game when we sped past the Abbey Stadium, must of got in to Portman Road about 3.20pm that day, fookin hell we set off about 6am

worst journies I endured were Torquay which took 9 hours in red hot weather (and no air con in the car) - stuck in traffic jams for 35 miles on the M5... got to Torquay for quarter past 2!!! Just made the match!!!
and a 10 hour train journey to Plymouth. The train stopped its engines and stopped in Exeter for an HOUR!!!Serious weekend of disruption on the trains for some reason, the train had to go off the main line and go through Yeovil and all bloody sorts as well as the one hour stop. Good job we set off on the Friday!!!
