Taxi compaines, biggest rip off over the christmas period double time Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day how the fuck do they justify that. I was charged £9.20 from the Nursery Pub to the Tall Ships last night.

When you consider the Taxi Driver who is working on a Boxing Day and the actual biggest swindle , fuel prices, Hartlepool Taxi prices are very reasonable and I don't begrudge paying more at this time of year.

But why double time, what would you say if pubs put their drink up to £6.00, there paying no more for petrol. I had a friend who had to call to boots pharmacy on Christmas day couldn't drive because he had drink the night before and was charged nearly £25.00 for return journey.

If you want a taxi at Christmas or New Year then pay the going rate and don't whine. Nobody forced you to get a cab, you had at least two other options that I can think of.

Its not a rip off, its just economics less taxis on the road, less demand, drivers giving up a day with their families (actually based on that I'd do it for nowt) and providing a much better service than the combined wit of our local council and big budget travel firms can come up with.

But its not just Christmas Day and New Years Day its now day before and after. I had no other option but to get taxi last night.

Ok how would you feel if you traveled down to Chesterfeild was told your travel was double the price and your entry into the ground was £40 instead of £20

You could have walked or got a lift.

Taxis don't hold a gun to your head and the Nursery to the Tall Ships is about 30mins walk.

Surely you know the fair goes up at Xmas?

Either walk, get a lift or drive and don't drink.

I just walk everywhere over Christmas. Avoid taxis like the plague. It's not that much of a hardship to walk if it means saving yourself a tenner.

I would rather be home in 5 minutes and pay a tenner than walking home and it taking 45 minutes, that does include 4 piss stops and if I have had a ruby a not to pleasant number 2. That could have been in some poor sods garden or in my own boxers ?

Pay the tenner all day long me like.

Hope everybody had a nice Christmas.

I went down the marina with our lass last night and i always look forward to a boxing day out on the drink but ive never seen the marina as dead as it was last night, there was hardly anyone out the north star shut at 8 vibes was dead and the irish bar had 4 other people in.

Our lass said lets get a taxi to the Whitehouse £7.50 had a few drinks in there and a taki from there to Bishop Cuthbert village (on the outskirts of Hartlepool) another £7.

Last time i go out on boxing night i think most people must stop in now

I have gone out on Xmas Eve and Boxing Day for years, I now never venture further than the Gillens or Tall Ships.

Those in the private sector should get off their ars*s and fight for double time on a Sunday. Best to form or join a union first though

It's economics, supply and demand, they have a right to be paid more for inconvenient hours, you know the prices before you get in one

moan moan moan ... You have to pay a bit more to get carried around pissed on bank holidays.. Taxi fares are dirt cheap in the town even paying double they are only expensive if you're in it on your own!

Please, not another envious race-to-the-bottom thread.

I work in a job where I get time and a half for working weekends. Some people I know get double or treble, and some get standard rate.

Since time immemorial taxis have been dearer for peak periods, just like holidays in warmer months. You pay your money and you take your choice.
