Compo- my better half & the kids quite like the national museum on Chambers St . It's not far off the Royal Mile. Changing exhibitions ,a bit quirky, good views of Edinburgh from the roof & a decent café in the Atrium.

Loads of free art galleries in Edinburgh. Most with good cafes etc if you fancy a bit of culture & a warm -http://www.edinburgh.org/see-do/free-attractions/galleries

The Grassmarket has a few decent pubs although Edinburgh is full of them. If you want to impress the g/f try the Dragonfly. They serve cocktails & all that shyte . The Beehive Inn & the Last Drop are down there as well. All 3 are worth a visit usually.

Loads of places to eat around the City.

Great city but suggest ditch the Zoo unless you're really keen & climb up Arthur's seat instead for panoramic & yes, Compo, romantic views, of the City. The Zoo is a good 'un but wait till you have some bairns in tow. If you do decide on the Zoo the airport bus goes straight past the entrance , number 100 as I recall.

Enjoy.

Go to Mary Kings Close, which is the city underneath modern Edinburgh.

Well done on fertilising your lass!
