I'm disappointed he didn't do his criss cross arm waving dance at another Pools player after the ball went in the net

I missed the Howard incident as I was walking down to the corner for the last minute or so. That was never a red card, the oxford player wants booking for simulation.

There second goal is an embarrassment there is not one Pools player reading the ball and Walton only moving once there bloke has the ball in the net. Very statuesque and something that school kids wouldn't do.

I was booked by the wife for simulation the other night. I was pretending she was someone else while we had sex

She hit me over the head with the book

Well I am going to go against the majority here and say Howard deserved a red card.

It was a pointless, stupid, late, lazy, slow challenge that was going to do nothing for Pools.

Was it dangerous? It was one of those that could have been.

Its about time some on here started to get with the times. Challenges like that are outlawed now. And on the basis that there is no need for challenges like that, then thats a good thing.

Players should stay on their feet, unless they are desperately trying to stop a goal going in.

If Howard had won the ball where the fuck does anyone think the ball was going to go?

Its a challenge from another decade, the game has changed, and its about time league two caught up.

Looked more like the other fella kicked Howards foot than abything else, he hardly lunged in he fell to the ground and stuck his leg out.

I'd like to see our full backs doing some tackles sometimes... stop the cross, stop the goal.

Do you not get it?

What was he doing going in like that anyway, regardless of who connected with who?

We tell our kids to stay on their feet, and I know the academies tell the kids the same. So I know Cooper thinks thats right.

So why does anyone go to ground and challenge like that in a pointless area of the pitch?

Whether you think its right or not, the game has changed. Players who go to ground risk getting booked or sent off, even if the just mistime their lunge.

Stay on your fooking feet.

I get it yes, but even with todays soft laws that didnt look dangerous in the slightest so shouldnot of been a red. The law doesnt state if you go to ground your off.

Finding myself agreeing with dibble, his studs are up and apart from possibly knocking the ball away from himself a few yards, the only thing that could result from that kind of challenge is an injury to their guy.

It's the old story of ref consistency, though. If you've got the Echo to-day, have a look at the photo on p 23. Both those comments could apply in that situation also. Asa Hall has his boot a fraction away from Walton's head. Hall wasn't penalised.

well I am close to a lot of kids football, and I hate to see tackles like that.

He didnt break anyones leg, but it was still an unnecessary tackle. They might be cliches to you, but they are both true statements in my eyes.

I dont care if you dont believe me, but in my opinion it was a stupid pointless tackle, and one I hate to see.

It amazes me that some of you cant see the pointlessness of the actual tackle.

No but he is there to judge if it is legal.

He judged it wasnt, and I agree with him.

And until players learn to stay on their feet I would like to see more red cards given.

But hey, if Pools appeal, and the card is rescinded then I will hold my hands up.

But I cant see that happening, unless Pools are trying to get the ban extended.

It was neither dangerous or malicious and it's never a red in a million years but in this day and age you are asking for trouble making that sort of attempt to win the ball.

I'm not sure I agree with it but players know if they go in like that their is a decent chance you will get sent off.

I think it was as deliberate as anything iv ever seen, infact i think the fa should punish him with a 20 match ban.iv heard a rumour that before it happened he said he was gona break his leg. He meant it, if Suarez playful bite was 10 then this act of violence is 20.

That to me is over the ball and dangerous, he has actually bent their guys foot back, if that was on his shin then it would have been a legbreaker.

I think the point is being missed here.

He went in studs up, in an area of the field where it was completely unnecessary. It wasnt a similar example to Mad Johns when a defender slides in from the side.

But there again, even that makes me wonder about the defenders positioning to have to go to ground, and if it wasnt a goalscoring opportunity what was the point?

At best it was the tackle of a clumsy, slow, stiff player that shouldnt be on the field of play.

Like I said, I would have sent him off.........for stupidity if nothing else.

i read a decent interview with rio ferdinand a few years ago where he said if your having to slide in, its cos your out of position.

You'll rarely see the likes of xavi and iniesta charging about n sliding in like mad men, cos there positioning is so excellent they 'intercept' rathern than 'tackle'.

But hey were english we love a good tackle.

Had it been on his neck it could have taken his head off, let's not forget that.

You'd have to be on drugs to think that was a red card.

From the away end you looked a decent attacking side after half time and passed the ball around really well. After the equalizer we were right on the back foot and I'd have taken a draw the way you were playing. If you can tighten up at the back and with James up front I think you'll be ok this season, because it was better than £25 spent to watch cheltenham or wycombe lumping the ball up in the air all afternoon.

These are very good points. Are we sure he wasn't just falling over?
