Sorry to piss on your chips but both cities have a massively bigger population and the only competition is for Swansea is Cardiff.

Population of Burnley is approx 18000 less than Hartlepool. Admittedly they arent in the premiership now but they have been recently.

I have massive respect for the townsfolk of Burnley, Blackburn, Preston and Blackpool - that little stretch of 4 towns across north Lancashire they are fiercely loyal to their home town clubs

I just think Hartlepool people have had any pride in the town kicked out of them over the years by a combination of the drop in jobs for people, piss poor councillors & how isolated we are.

We'd win a title in the apathy world cup but that's about it.

Smaller town population, yes, but in a bigger catchment area (Pendle is as big again). The nearest competition is Accrington.
Which is like Middlesbrough is to Hartlepool, with the Manchester clubs being their Mackem/Barcode spectre. Still good going though.
